If I'm not mistaken it was an option.

Re: 4x4 Skid Plates

Thank you Roger, payment sent.

Here are some pictures of the one I have on my 71 K10, it's identical to the factory one on my 72 K5. I also put one on my 71 K20 suburban, no difference, they are all the same. From my understanding the skid plates were factory option for the K5's only, then again you could order about anything you wanted at that time. Not hard to install, bolt front part of skid plate to t-case cross member, then drill the four holes in bottom frame rails for rear cross member, fasten bolts, done.

I thought it was an option. I've found that most of the K10-K20 do not have them.

Will both in front of and behind the TC from a K5 work?

Will anything from a K10 work? From a C10?

Thanks for the pics and info. That should clarify to the members how it looks.

To help answer previous question on cross members. Any factory correct GM 1971-1972 K5, K10, K20 series transfer case cross members will work for rear skid plate cross member. From my experience the only difference will be that the factory rear skid plate cross members do not have the upper frame rail attached bracing. The extra upper braces on the factory transfer case cross members will be riveted from factory and can be removed to use for rear skid plate cross member. There may be other years that will work but I'm not sure on them.
Yours will ship today VIA UPS. Thanks

Re: 4x4 Skid Plates

Roger, as to your question on frames the K/10 long bed and K/20 frame are the same part. Short K/10 and K5 are similar but not identical, they are also not made of as heavy gauge metal as the long bed frame.

Re: 4x4 Skid Plates

Yes, it made it fine. It would be hard to damage one of these things.

Re: 4x4 Skid Plates

Do you still have a few? I'll take one. I'm also looking for the top supports for the transfer case cross member (goes from the crossmember to the top of the frame) if you have those
