Re: Somebody please save it
Well, my son will be turning sixteen in a few more years. This could be a decent starter truck for him to learn to drive. I showed him the pictures and asked if he would like driving it. He said yes. He asked what year it was and I told him a 68 and he was even more interested since my truck is a 68 also. I called about it this morning and they said it had a 6-cylinder in it, but the VIN said it originally had a V8. I didn't ask him to read me the VIN, though.
This would make a good truck for him to learn to build on, and learn to drive. He could do enough work on it himself to learn to appreciate the work that goes into them and respect it. As for the longbed vs. shortbed thing, I try to stay out of those debates because people like what they like. For appearance and looks, I personally just like shortbeds. That's my preference, but I'm not against buying a nice longbed as a DD or utilitarian vehicle. I don't think I could ever bring myself to to make a "work truck" out of any classic with a good, straight body and bed. I used to have a 66 longbed as a DD and loved it.

Re: Somebody please save it
I'm just sayin, It's your truck / my truck. Do whatever you want with it. I like them all. I'd give $800 for this one, sight unseen without a title. Get a title, and you've got an $1,800 truck. Long Bed, Shortbed .. there's money to be made in this truck. this cab and front clip on a SWB frame and find a good fleet bed for it. A decent drop, not even painted and it would be $2,500-$3,000 truck. Just cleaned up with some rallys on it.
Me personally I'd look for a SWB chassis and sit it over on that frame. Drop a good (basically stock 350) in it and just fix on it as I could. Matt, it sounds like you're right on track if this is something you might want to do. Your son seeing it come together from the frame up would not only give you some time with him, he'd learn so much about the truck .. plus, you would know where he is. You'd know he's staying out of trouble! See my signature? There's a reason for that.. Matt, call me if you want. I have access to a rollback but it would be pretty pricey.. we'll figure out a way to get it home. How many miles is it from you?

I have a good idea for a truck like that and I wouldn't have to be in a big hurry with it since my son is only fixing to turn 10. I also realize that 6 yrs can sneak up quickly, though. I'm trying to figure out where the last 10 went. My wife doesn't want him to have anything with any power because he already thinks everything has to spin tires and go fast. In reality, though, do we ever get over that? If he does alot of the work, or at least has a hand in it, he will apreciate it more. He will also have to buy his own gas and tires. After quickly wearing down a couple sets, he will learn to take it easy. Well, at least I hope he will. :O

Re: Somebody please save it
In TN, you can apply for a lost title. The process goes easier if you have a bill of sale and it still has the matching VIN tag and VIN plate.
