Re: running problem
the float is set to spec
would the idle mixture screws have anything to do with it? it does stumble a bit at first when i floor it and kinda makes a bubbley popping sound when idleing

Re: running problem
Don't give up on the Q-Jet, when properly dialed-in, it can deliver better around town driveability, milage and real Power when needed.
The Q-Jet is almost totally vacuum controlled so make sure the carb has no vacume leaks. Spray the base of the carb with carb cleaner and see if the idle raises. Adjust the air/fuel mixture screws by first turning them in all the way (softly) and then back out 1 1/2 turns. adjust from that point 1/4 turns at a time. Start with turning IN. If it begins to run worse then begin turning OUT. You will need to adjust the idle screw as well. If needed, they are easy to rebuild. Rob |

Re: running problem
im not gona give up on it
i rebuilt it about 10months ago, i was playing with the mixture screws earlier and i still heard the bubbley popping sound and the secondaries still arent working the way they used to and should, but it idles fine and idles right at 650rpm in gear which is the spec i found in the paper that came with the rebuild kit

Re: running problem
when i was a kid most of the vehicles running around had Q-jets. (at least the vehicles i paid attention to.)
when they would idle and then suddenly die, someone would get a wrench or something and tap lightly on the carb in different spots to free the float. if that worked it isolated it as a float problem. One of my older brothers was really good with Q-jets, he actually had the patience to let all the parts soak over night, I just wanted to bolt another one on and go to the black top and do burn-outs. life is funny sometimes. and good, Kent |
