I'll throw in my info kinda late....

My '72 is a factory Custom Deluxe truck....it was optioned with both top and lower outside trim, but without white paint between them...the body is solid Ochre besides the top of the cab, which is white. It also has PS and PB, but no AC. I have seen every kind of paint scheme, 2-tone, solid, and solid with white top on Custom, Custom Deluxe, and both styles of Cheyenne trucks.

Other weird options i have noticed have been Cheyenne trucks with idiot-light dashes instead of the guages, and base model trucks with AC. Also 6-cylinder manual tranny trucks with AC, but V8, automatic Cheyenne trucks without it. Lots of weird combinations out there

I personally have never seen a cheyenne model without a 2 tone paint job and one of my teachers who is retired from gm told me that the first years that you see the 2 tones on was not done at the factory but at dealerships and then Gm picked up on it as it was popular with the public and started producing 2 tones in 71 i think it was

Yup, my TH350 has been rebuilt....and my original 350 is long gone (but was still in the truck when i got it). The truck originally came with a TH350 though....you could get just about any tranny behind any engines as far as i know.....except maybe a 3-on-the-tree behind a big block.

Thanks for the reply.
How much did you buy your truck originally?
I'm looking at a '72, but it will need a new 350 tranny?
Thanks!

If you are asking me, i paid $2550 for my truck a little over 3 years ago....and i think it was too much.
A new TH350 tranny shouldn't cost you more than $500 fully rebuilt and installed....rebuilds go for $400 or less, and you can proably find someone to put it in for like $100 more

Cool

The person that is selling his 72 truck for $3000 with a bad tranny. Then, he went down to $2500. I thinking $2000 is reasonable. NAPA parts is selling a rebuilt tranny for $350.00 with $100.00 core charges and $75 for the case.
Thanks!

they're rare, but those manual transmission big block trucks are out there. for maybe every 20 BB/TH400 trucks, there is 1 BB/4 speed (i'd say)...and for every 20 of those is one BB/3 on the tree. yeah, they did make 'em like this, but who knows why.

I've seen C/10 badged 71 and 72 trucks before too, in all cases they didn't have some of the features listed in that list, probobly was a delete item.

Easier to understand in '70...

Base is C/10 then Custom was middle option and CST is top option.

The '70 is a custom and has the chrome bumpers etc and two tone paint. BTW, two tone paint started before '71, but the '70s two tone, which is listed on the glove box is green base with white for the top half of the cab.

Our '65 was a custom and then I think that was the only option. Had a V8 and guage dash.

Or this style two tone.
I have seen a 71 or 72 painted this way.
They were very flexible on paint. I have seen a yellow and red truck painted like the green and white 69 Longhorn above (which belongs to board member longhornjeff) The yellow replaced the white. I wish i woulda taken pics of that one...it was fugly...but all original and even owned by the original owner still.
By the way, this gold and white belonged to a board member Pig Pen. It is a 70, and this was the paint as he recieved it. He told me it was the original paint scheme..but I do not remember if it was the original paint. He later repainted it in the same style seen here.

Earlier in the post the description of the Super Cheyenne had the houndtooth seats as parchment, blue, and olive. It said buckets were available in same colors. If you ordered buckets you could also get black and saddle in the vinyl buckets. I saw this in a 1972 Salesmans Data Book about a year ago. This was the book that a salesman would go through with a customer when ordering a truck. The code was A50. Wish I had bought the book!
