Dual carb
I am looking at switching my 78 305 with a 2 barrel carb to a dual 2barrel carb...What would need to be done to complete this. Like with gas lines and all that..anything will help. Also is this even possible. This is in my 69 c10

Re: Dual carb
I'm familiar with the 6 pack (3x2bbl),dual quads (2x4bbl), 8x singles, 6x singles, dual singles, hilborn etc etc
But the only 2x2bbl intakes I've seen, are for Ford Flatties (flatheads), Dodge Flat 6's, Nailheads etc the old school motors (Someone correct me if I'm wrong...) Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Dual carb

Re: Dual carb
Been around a lot of engine and intake combinations in my days but have never seen a dual-2 barrel intake set-up. 3-2's, single fours, single 2 barrel, single 1 barrel and 2-4's (I have a dual four set-up on my '57 2dr with a 283) but have never known any after market or stock intakes for such a set-up. Not saying it does not exist, would be quite rare I would say for sure.

Re: Dual carb
I do think that Edelbrock made [or may still] a 2x2 intake for the sbc. Uless you have some life long dream to full fill or somebodys dieing wish to complete I say you may should consider scrapping that idea and think about a very inexpensive and reliable swap like a 600 Edelbrock 4 barrell carb and a performer intake. It will really help wake up the 305 and it will run pretty respectable with proper tune. Even a good Q-jet is very good for econmy if that is what you seek but probably not looking into that kind of mods. Also on the 4 bbl swap the linkage is not that big of a deal and the fuel lines are not that difficult and that is not at all true going with a multi carb set up. Also with a multi carb setup you have to be a pretty good tuner to get the thing running right and have them sync'ed up. That is not a problem with a single. Jim

Re: Dual carb
I dunno, it sounds like a fun tinker challenge. Sometimes it is fun to build the impractical just to say you did.

Re: Dual carb
Have you ever priced multi carb set-ups? Pricey to say the least $$$$ and as Hugger mentioned getting everything sync'ed and the linkage set-up correctly can be an exercise in futility. Here's a few pics of SBC multi carb set-ups (keep in mind some are single 97's etc) but again I've not seen any 2x2bbl set-ups that aren't home-brewed or for the classic v8's I mentioned above.
As many members have mentioned a single quad is VERY effective, easy and inexpensive. BUT I like being different as well so I get where you're coming from. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Dual carb
I saw one of these once. The installer(I hesitate to call him a mechanic)had some trouble with setting it up.I never saw it run,it was just setting on the bench next to the banana shaped connecting rods. The engine had hydraliced big time when he stomped it.

Re: Dual carb
I was thinking you wanted a complete 2x2bbl intake...but as mentioned above adapters might be your option, instead of home-brewing a complete intake....unless you go singles (which I prefer lol)

Re: Dual carb
2 4bbls will use less gas cruising on primaries, then have more juice when you hit it. It's cool to be different, but to me,not when it doesn't make much sense. It's a free world full of individuals,so have fun. Just sayin...

Re: Dual carb
I am open to anything. I just figured since i have 2 2 barrel carbs already why not put them to use...the dual 4 barrel could be down the line, but i dont have money to be buying 2 carbs. With the 4 barrel intake and the adapter plate for 2 2 barrels I could get that all for 100 or less. I am a working college student. i love the pics and if you have any other ideas or pictures. Id love em.

Re: Dual carb
Best idea yet,IMO. And if dual quads are in your future, you'd already part way there. I'd think it would perform better than two 2bbls through one plenum.
