Re: Need Ideas "Boring Glove Box Door"

I havent seen it done on our trucks, but I have seen Stacy David use guitar puckguard material as a background for some gauges on the dash of a car he built. I have always thought that it would be cool to have some cut to work on my gauge bezel and another to match for the glovebox door. Something like this:

One company I know of for sure that sells flat sheets of pickguard material is www.warmoth.com. they have pearloid, tortishell, and solids in a variety of colors, and layers. You can pick up a white black white three layer for instance, to give the rim a black pinstripe.

DT1, how about having a vinyl photo made for the GB door at a sign shop? You could have any picture you want made in vinyl, trim it out, and just stick it on the door. If you got tired of it, it will peel right off. You could even put the cool Chevy emblem on top.

Re: Need Ideas "Boring Glove Box Door"

That's funny, How about a pic of the inside of the GB. That way you don't have to open it up to see what's inside.

If they were made up in vinyl with a magnetic backing, you could change it everyday.

Re: Need Ideas "Boring Glove Box Door"

I used a Cheyenne Super insert and painted the vinyl part with spray in bedliner to match the texture of the driver's side and used a '67 - '68 emblem on my '69 C-10.

Since this thread was posted, I've done another glove box, for my '68 C-10. I found a technique that matches the grain on the cluster bezel near perfectly. Here's the thread on it:

Up close pic of the glove box door:

Here is my glovebox door I just finished. I used a Chevrolet script off a valve cover for my insert.

Re: Need Ideas "Boring Glove Box Door"

how about a piece of translucent plexiglass with color like truck, then put some lights behind it. or put a hi-tech stereo speaker behind plexiglass with holes drilled in it. or, cover door with a piece of plastic chrome and pin stripes? I know, not conventional. could try something on a extra glove box, and save original

Re: Need Ideas "Boring Glove Box Door"

If you had another dash, you could put the dash where the glove box door is with all gages and stick a dummy steering column and wheel on. that would freak people out...
