Are you going to continue with straight brush strokes, or maybe throw in some curves and swirls? I have not messed with wood grain painting but I'm intrigued.

Looking good! Do you have the graining tool or going to do it freehand? Are you going to polish out the raised portion afterwards or leave it painted?

Ernesto,that is coming out saweet! That's what I'm taking about. Man,unless you are doing a 100pt absolute correct all original restoration,this is better. Custom hand work tops production methods,in my book,and I'm all about original. But,I like subtle upgrades and craftsmanship on my stuff.

the thing about using paint is you can always fix what you mess up, here I tried to fog in a little black, but it got away from me, now I will sand and start over. BUMMER

sorry to hear/see that...
But as you said...relatively cheap fix...much better than scratching the vinyl overlay  Have you ever seen the woodgrain tool that puts natural looking grain on? It's like a rubber stamp you slide across while moving up and down...

bought a piece of veneer and used it on glovebox door. I may just do the door-panels and cluster the same way

I've done walnut veneer before. On the door panels I painted the outer area matte black. It's not an original interior anymore and that looked a lot better than worn out factory pieces.

veneer did not work out for me, so after some trial and error, decided to just use paints and gel stains , here is where I am now

I bought a complete A/C system for my truck and had a set of woodgrain door inserts with black door panels giving to me. I thought I wouldn't like them, and really didnt at the time. I sold them to a board member cheap 150.00 to be exact. I'm now leaning towards doing a woodgrain interior now. Wish I would have keep them now. I've wondered if someone could get a panel and have it scanned on a copying machine. Then someway have it transferred to a sticker type adhesive sheet. I have seen some amazing work done by the board members here and I believe someone on here could replicate it. Just a thought.
