Started to play with the idea of inner fenders. Still need to hammer and dolly some spots out, but these are pretty straight considering their age.

I did it similar.... err, I'm doing it similar. I raised them approx 4" & clearanced sheet-metal accordingly.

To get out oil canning you either need heat or a shrinker of some sorts. Here is a good YouTube video of the heat method. Basically a nice big rose bud tip getting the metal cherry red, and then quick quenching. The heat shrinks the metal and then the quick quench locks that shrink in.

As for my inner fenders I am not worried about metal perfection... No one is going to be seeing mine once the top is completed, so I just want them for function not show.

Awesome work. I love the truck, workbench and the fact that you are also trying to get your kid off the video gaming system and interested in these trucks. I have a 13 year old that seems to enjoy video games in his spare time and I would like to see him more interested in learning some skills. I have a build thread on this site "89 GMC Cummins Conversion" and I am hoping my kid will start his own when we start our "Father and Son project." It will be a 78 GMC K30 CC SRW.

Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see them both finished.

Exactly.

My inner bed wall will still be secured @ each of the original points as where it was OE. Granted the lip was removed, but it's sturdy enough w/the small lip from the tub. I also will be joining the inner & outer pieces just like they came from the factory (trim shield that attached to both).

Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah 13 year olds are interesting, but hey we were there at one time ourselves! So I know if I light this candle it will burn for a very long time. You can't hide gasoline in the veins! In fact it was funny the other day we were out doing some errands around town and he says "Dad look a 65 short bed Chevy truck!" "Cool!, is that what our is going to look like?" I said "No our is going to be much better..." R R R that's my boy!

Are they aluminum semis also or something else?
Kinda look like semi steelies to me from pics.....

A stud gun without the studs is good for shrinking oilcanning out as well, especially if you're not real confident with a torch or don't yet own one.

Those are my mock-up rims, and they are all aluminum. Got them for a steal, but I am going to order new Alcoa's that are already machined from Tennessee Wheel & Tire.

I actually got several things done on the dually today. First of all I got the bed frame work completed (finally...). You can take off the bed sides and the front part of the bed and the framework remains in place. I also got the wheel arches cut out today as well.

My driveshaft is supposed to be done by mid week. So that will allow me to figure out what I will need to do with the bridge over the driveshaft.

So I went out to the donor Suburban and robbed the gas tank door. Below I finished the filler neck and the breather tube install. I will make a box that will hold the filler tube and mount to the gas door. Then I will start the sheet metal that will cover the rear of the bed and incorporate the fuel door. Should be interesting...

A couple more items ticked off the list... I really want to get this beast turned around and start working on the front end!

I went and picked up my drive shaft after work tonight. They did a great job on it! Driveline Express in Lubbock is excellent. So now I get to fab up the bridge over the shaft and set the pinion angle.

I am getting a lot closer to calling the rear of the vehicle done for the moment and moving on the to the front end. Just a couple of other items on the rear and then it is time to turn it around and concentrate on the front and then the interior.

I bought the drop spindles yesterday, can't wait till they get here!!! They are a set of the Belltech's 3" drop.

I also got the driveshaft installed yesterday night. As it turns out I do not have to take as much material out of the bridge as I thought I would have too. That's a relief!

Tomorrow I am going to start the rear bump stops. That should not take much time, and then it is on to the battery tray and then getting my rear brakes hooked up along with the e-brake cables. Whew lots to do... :roll:

OK I was out shopping with the wife tonight and she heads down the makeup isle, time to exit stage right... So I found a Hot Wheel display, so being a good hubby I give her time to scope out all her stuff, and I take my time digging through all the Hot Wheels! I came up with these two rides.

OK call me a big kid, but Hot Wheels are partially to blame for my hot rod sickness. So I find it hard to pass up cool rides like the 67 and 83 trucks you see before you. Still looking for the 63 with the surf boards in the bed. I had a couple of them but they have since disappeared.

Don't tell me your not a Hot Wheel collector... You know who you are...

Wade they are Belltech 3". I got them off eBay from thesuspensionsource2010. If you watch these guys those spindles go on sale every so often, and if not they generally have a "make an offer" tab. They ship super fast and have great service.

I got the truck off the stands tonight and got the old dually wheels put back on so I could test my rear suspension movement.

I have heard a lot of trucks over the years squeak and groan going through their full up and down movement, which tells you that there is something binding up somewhere in the suspension system. I made sure the shop was very quiet to take this video because I wanted to hear if anything was binding up, and I was glad to see that it went through the whole movement without making even a squeak!

I made up a rig for the air bags with a ball valve on the end. Thanks again Home Depot!!!

I did a similar deal w/mine to check for bind. I just installed the rear bumper (vs the bed/sheetmetal) to get an idea of height.... but it was pretty cool seeing it so close to the ground.

I am starting on the front end of the truck and was needing some help from this very knowledgeable crowd. Has anyone put a York 210 on a 454? I have seen several on Cummins, and small blocks, but I can't remember seeing any on 454's. If you have done this can you please post some pics. I think the most logical area to mount is on the drivers side right by the alternator.

Any help is appreciated!

not a simple solution but here is an idea:

Use this set of brackets to mount to the engine (you'll have to see if you can get just the brackets and not the compressor:

add one of these to mount the York compressor to:

Thanks man! Both projects have been a blast, and that table has been so useful.

I just wish the truck was done so we could take it to some shows this year, but that is still several months away. Oh well if it was easy it would not be cool...

I just went through your whole Blazer build. That truck is going to look killer when completed. What rims do you plan on running? Maybe those Coy rims you had on your dime? They would look great on the blazer!
