Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

Your project is looking good! Personaly I would not due the sub frame route. Just go the the junk yard and get teh front end off a 70's-80's truck/burb and bolt it all in. It should all fit if I remember right. It would also be a much cleaner set up that would match all the hard work you have put into it so far.
One project I would like to do one day is take a 65 burb and build a Tahoe out of it! 4 door's and shortened up just a bit for a new family hauler.

Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

well i want to go with the sub frame for the power steering and it cheaper to to do what i want with it

the only bad thing about getting the 70 and 80s front mu lowered spindles
wont fit they are the five lug conversion spindles for the 63 66 trucks

Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

I guess I just don't get why the power steering is better off a sub-clip? I had looked into this once for a customer and once you add in the price of the clip (cheap I know) and a full rebuild kit of it then drop spindles, rotor conversion and time to swap it over and then get it all lined back up for the radiator, bumper and misc parts it just was not worth doing.

Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

well im not sure what i want really i lowerd my buddys 76 chevy truck after work
and looked at the power steering i can make it work and i can cut some of the cross member out and box it back in then lower my motor 2 or 3 inches
thats all i really need i think that it why i was wanting a subframe

pluc i was looking at the frame if i do the subframe i pretty much just wasted my time and i would have to box it all back in

for the money i would have in it i can buy the tubular control arms and i have the lowered spindles allready

so im going to keed going on the frame asis

Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

that is the route i went and it is almost laying crossmember tubular lowers drop spindles and bags i still may z the frame but only 2'' or so the front sub frame idea may take you longer i also put the power steering on from a 84 and only had to drill one hole and it all bolted right in look here http://groups.msn.com/ROLLNLOW/thec10.msnw keep up the good work hope this helped

Re: new here what do you think 64 burb

Good call I just think you would not gain as much as you would need to make it worth wild doing. Also keep in mind if you leave your frame stock now you can alway slap in a drop member down the road when funds allow and your arms, springs/bags, drop spindles, disk will all work great. Here is a pic of my truck with 3" drop spindles, 2" body drop and bags. In this pic it still has an inch or so to go because the front tires are hitting the fender/hinge mounts. With the fenders off is drops right to the ground with no problems. I still might do an 1 3/8" crossmember chanel to get my front arms off the ground and get just a touch lower. Then my bed will be the problem as the floor is already raised 6" and I do not want to re-cut the frame to get a few inches more. With this set up right now my pinch welds are about 1/2" from hitting and my rear plate sits hard on the ground as it is.

Project is looking good. I think it was a wise choice not going with the subframe.

Hi ,

Just curious if you where intrested in a tailgate-rear hatch setup instead of the barn doors on your burban. Let me know if your intrested.
