Re: My '59 Apache
Today was an important day! Impala was put outside and the Apache put in place for some upgrades!! One thing nice about my Maxjax lift, the lift column in the middle of the garage can be moved out of the way!! I'll begin by removing the bench seat, then the floor panel to expose the tranny! hopefully the old bolts holding the screws on the floor won't give me too much hell! lol If that goes well, I'll put the truck up in the air and remove the driveshaft, then simply the transmission! Sounds easy enough! I'll let you know over the next few days what happens! ; ) I've been griping about the trucks stance, but here in the photo it looks pretty good! maybe I should just leave well enough alone?

Re: My '59 Apache
Gosh, the removal of the old stuff isn't that fun, but nice to know good stuff will be going back in, and not dirty! I had the truck up on the lift to under everything down below(driveshaft, exhaust, and 3 bolts around the tranny), then put the truck back on the ground, put my lift at its longest boom position, put a couple large type tie down straps, then lowered the tranny down onto a small furniture dolly. The put the truck back up on lift and raised it to roll the tranny out from underneath the truck.
I'll be cleaning up the garage the rest of the day to get organized. tomorrow i'll pull out the 230 I6! Looking forward to that! not! ; ) I didn't realize the quality of the photo was so bad. I'll start using my regular camera from now on! |

Re: My '59 Apache
I6 230 is out! Man I'm cookin!! ; ) Now If I can just sell this and the tranny, or almost give it away. I think they're probably like not worth much these days~ however, still need to get the bell housing out; hopefully shouldn't be a problem. I put the engine way up high, opened the garage door and pushed the truck out of the garage. I had to put 2x6's under the tires so the engine lift would go under the truck. no biggy!
I'll get Gary to help me push the truck back in the garage when he gets home from work. |

Re: My '59 Apache
Today went out and bought this 2nd row Tahoe seat, right color too! Tan! and the seat belts and plastic. Not sure if I can use the plastic, but I"m going to try! after seeing these seats in Dave Chapmans truck, I had to have them too! Cool seats Dave! I can't wait to just set them in to see how they're going to work! They measure out just right! ; )

Re: My '59 Apache
Nice seat you got there, and that lift is just way too handy. I am going to have to get me one of those now that my boys have left home.

Re: My '59 Apache
Nice seats. Also, I'd list your engine and trans on the stovebolt.com and HAMB sites. when visiting HAMB do say the words "billet" or "ratrod"! Guys there are always looking for sixes. In your metro area you should not have a problem getting rid of it especially with the chrome.

Re: My '59 Apache
Thanks ya'll on the compliments! makes me want to get out there and get busy! ; )
Today I made another boom extension for my Little Mule, to put my plastic engine in the engine compartment, I didn't have much time today being Sunday and all, and maybe use it as a second hand to hold up my steering column when I mock it up next week, but mocking the steering column will all depend on which steering system I buy; leaning towards the Toyota, but I could be easily swayed! Anyway, I'm impressed by how much weight this square tubing can hold up! I think the way it is here in this photo it would take maybe 75lbs easily! ; ) Last edited by Denee007; 08-28-2011 at 03:55 PM. Reason: added photo |

Tahoe seat(first time in)
Finally got my seat (2nd row Tahoe) sat in. Thanks to my Little Mule, I just guided it right in! I hadn't removed the gas tank yet, but just wanted to get the jist of what/how it may look. It will go back another 2-3" after the gas tank is removed, the drivers seat is about 1-1.5" off center to the dash. I don't think that's going to bother me and I think that after all the interior is painted in a shade to match the seat< I think it will be ok. There will be some fabrication in the floor panel to get the seat flat on the floor(about 3/4" raise needs to be removed). I'll get more photos after I remove the gas tank and put the seat back in. It's a beautiful seat and very comfortable!

Re: My '59 Apache
Did you get the code on the inside of the glove box from the donor truck. Looks like medium pewter (U642 if my memory is working) like mine. Second row seat looks a little more cushy than my third row!

Re: My '59 Apache
Gee Orrie, didn't dawn on me to get the code! nor the year model, but I will call back out there and ask and the year model I should get as well for kgmonroe. But I did get all the seatbelt hardware including the plastic covering for the seatbelts. Don't know if I can use the plastic stuff, but would look pretty nice. Just out of curiosity, what will the Code provide? I think I must be partially color blind as the colors, Tan, beige, and pewter don't register very well in my brain! lol Would that Code give me the color and I can paint the interior of my truck that color?

Re: My '59 Apache
I may just go back out to the salvage yard after I get the gas tank, to get the year of the Tahoe (photo), the code, and see if there's anything else I can use out of it; was even thinking the carpet~ it looked very good, but I didn't think too much about it at the time. They were pretty proud of their stuff I thought, but I think I paid about the going rate; 300 for the seat and 75 for the seat belts and the plastic stuff which hid the seat belts, so maybe not too bad. But when it comes to the carpet, I'd like it to fit well!

Re: My '59 Apache
I pulled the paint code off the donor too. I was having the same trouble as you, GM has a bunch of leather and paint colors that are hard to tell apart. I was going to paint my interior metal (Medium Pewter 382E) to match the seat (Medium Pewter 922) but when you paint it the tone goes to a gold in certain light. I started looking at trucks and bugging people in parking lots and found a lot of the trucks with the Medium Pewter seats are also painted Fine Silver Birch (926L) which is what I used on my interior.
To confuse things more GM called the 922 leather "Med. Gray/Neutral" in 2002 and "Pewter" in 2003 before settling on Medium Pewter in 2004. The duplicolor rattle can color to match the seat is T408, I don't have the Fine Silver Birch match with me. I figured GM did a lot of research in matching interiors to paint. I also did not want the "close but no cigar" look of the paint not quite matching the leather.

I was about to make a comment on how "unsafe" this all looked...until I realized it was a mock up block
You're making good process Denee!

Re: My '59 Apache
Embarrassingly enough, yes. Got carried away by what everybody else is doing. For the type of driving I'll be doing, the KISS principle will be just fine. When it comes to suspension, I just don't think I felt comfortable welding the Ifs in. I'm sure for me, it will be challengingly enough with the stock suspension! However, I have every kind of welding machine that I could ever want now, and I'll continue to practice on them for future projects.
