Re: My new 68 Stepper - all original

Wow! Unbelievable find! Really a beautiful example of a survivor. I'd love to see more pics but, when you get a moment, can you tell me what the gold paint code is? That's exactly the color combo I want for my 71 GMC.

Super looking truck and its nice to hear you say your going to leave it as it is. If you dont mind sharing I alwayslike to know how you came across the truck, Craigslist, relative, Local Classified Ad, friend of friend deal or saw it parked in a driveway with a For Sale sign on it etc. ?

Re: My new 68 Stepper - all original

It's not the 50th anniversary paint code of 4551. But it is close to it.

It's still even got the original cardboard separator between the gas tank and bench seat.

Re: My new 68 Stepper - all original

Never ever did I think I would ever find one like this with all of the documentation to prove the actual milage.

It's got a few things to address such as weatherstripping, heater core, driver window doesn't roll down. Had to put a muffler on it yesterday. Needs a tune up. All minor stuff.

To break the code down, 555 was a 525 saddle fawn metallic body with a 526 ivory (off-white) roof

IIRC the 525 saddle fawn was used only in 68-69 and the number was recycled for a different color.

...very, very nice little pick up...congrats!!
That is exactly the 'dream' way to find a classic truck...that kind of condition and history.
Any plans to change anything on it from its current condition and equipment?
(Maybe power steering and brakes...easy 'non-intrusive' stuff...a radio...or?
Very nice piece of machinery!

No, I really don't have many plans at this point. I might change the wheels and add a hidden radio. I don't plan on much except preserving it like it is as far as cosmetics and mechanical.

Besides, I already have a '70 CST10 that is highly molested that I can play with mod's. It's got a 462 CI BBC, lowered with ac and nice stereo.
