Yeah,I passed on a sweet restored`70 SWB K/10 some years back because the guy put Cheyenne/10 badges on it.What`s wrong with a CST/10,especially when that`s correct?There were other things.But,that bugged me bigtime.
My`71 Custom Camper/20 was a Cheyenne.It didn`t say it anywhere on the truck because it had the nameplate option.The Spid read Custom Sport Truck.I had so many blow hard so called experts tell me it wasn`t a Cheyenne.I guess it had a 396 in it,too.

Check my previous thread about seeing if the applique was re-glued or hole drilled after paint.That`s the only clues I can think of w/o correct SPID.

The only time that I have ever seen z84 used as a cheyenne super option was in export trucks for oshwa canada. The z84 is cheyenne only, in early 71 some trucks were listed as custom sport trucks still, but the super was released in april of 71, and listed as its own option code ye9. Some GMC sierra and sierra grandes were listed as both z19 (not sure on this option #) and as z84. Some in summation, the cheyenne z84 is not the same as ye9 at least in Chevy trucks, and with GMC depending on plant there was some crossed and conflicting info.

Cheyenne Supers are designated by several things all part of the "super" package, headliner, upper and lower trim- cheyennes only came with lower, upper was optional, front chrome bumper, PO1 full wheel covers, houndstooth interior (bench seat only) wood grained instrument and dash plaques as well as woodgrained door panels, special super name plate and in 71 chromed tailgate handle, in 72 stainless tailgate handle cover. Hey Harold, how did you find information about a chromed tailgate handle in 71' as being correct? I always thought it was a stainless cover like on 72'? I have never seen a chrome one ever on a original Super, course, I supposed they rusted up badly a few years after new, and were replaced. Trevor

Trevor I have attached several pictures from the documentation that I have. Many of the chromed handles did not survive, they rusted pretty badly, mine was unsaveable, but I do still have it somewhere. I used a 72 stainless cover on the NOS gate that I used on that truck. The 72 has the original 72 stainless cover on it still.

Just for more confusion, i have pulled 2 of those handle covers. 1 from a regular cheyenne, and one from a sierra. Not a grande or super...

Eric I am assuming they were both 72 model trucks? Around here supers are pretty hard to find and any GMCs are almost non existent.

I believe they were 72s... One was a 1/2 ton, and the gmc was a 3/4 ton custom camper. Of the ones i have had, they have all been stainless.

i went to check it out again today and forgot my cam. but i saw enough to see it was a clone. inside truck was yellow with white trim & woodgrain but the glove box was black it did match the vin but it had been changed they used reg. pop rivitts not gm. anyways thanks for all the help from everyone. bill
