Re: Barn find 71 K2500 followed me home

Update, truck is now running! Drove it around the yard and through the field. Brakes, power steering, oil pressure, charging, clutch, all seem to work good. I can't believe how well it runs actually. All it took was a battery, flushing the gas line and routing to gas can with fresh gas, new cap and rotor, and front tire swap. Also got all the trash out of it and pressure washed it. We removed 8 30 gallon bags worth of debris and trash.

Need to figure out what to do with this one, bought for parts, seems to nice to part out. May sell or just use as a work truck for awhile.

Check out the pics.

Thanks tim, feels good to have saved this one. The scrappers at the auction would have just hauled directly to crusher I'm sure.

I absolutely love and appreciate what you did with this pickup. Great job. Would it be possible for you to post the measurements of the distance between the upper and lower pinstripes? I'm wanting to add this to my bronze '71. Thanks.

Looks great!

I'm wondering what tire size you're working with - they look great with the stock ride height, and I'm looking for the same.

They are just the old skinny tires on 6" rims. The pass front you see there just says 7.50-16 on it. looks to be about 30"-31". I personally like the looks of a 33" like a 285/75/16 on the K20's.

Re: Barn find 71 K2500 followed me home

Does anyone know if these overload stops are stock or part of a HD rear spring or similar option? I haven't seen these on other trucks I've had. This is looking at the clamp on perches on the rear Dana 60 axle.

Pulled the diff cover off and gears look great. They are 4.10's and will get fresh gear lube tomorrow. Also changed the oil but now see a coolant leak around the water pump. Could be just a hose, we'll dig deeper and see.

Will do. Stay tuned.

Update, Title showed up on Friday so thats a relief. This weekend I put on lift, changed Rear diff fluid and new gasket, trans, and tcase drained and refilled with 80W-90 GL5. Engine has fresh 10w40. Pretty clean underneath. Also checked the lights and all the headlights and cab lights work.

Tonight i changed the plugs, and drove a few miles. Runs pretty good, idle could be a little smoother and stumbles when suddenly given gas under load but not bad considering truck sat for years and the carb hasn't been touched. Also pressure washed the engine bay and a little up front. Pass disc caliper is still not relaxing like it should.

Re: Barn find 71 K2500 followed me home

Update, got it cleaned up some more, reupholstered the seat myself (with a cover I bought), and put some different wheels and tires on it. Also put a driver side window, regulator, and inside and outside handles on. I've been using this on the acreage for chores now. I think the seat may be a slight upgrade from the log, what do you think? Still using the 1 gallon can as the fuel tank. The worst thing about the truck is rusty floors but the cab is solid from floors up, including visor area. I just need to figure out what to do with this truck. I'll shut up now and post some pics:

Hauling the livestock:

Looks better with glass here:
