Re: Should every garage have a plasma cutter

Cutoff wheels just aren't comparable when you need to do things like cut plates for a suspension, or skid plates etc out of heavier gauge metal. It would take 5 cutoff wheels at least to do some of the single cuts I've had to make. At to that things like aluminum and stainless tend to "gunk" up a wheel. I really want to get one again, but I will admit that for things like sheetmetal bodies, they are a bit overkill.

Re: Should every garage have a plasma cutter

I have cut many a panel using a straight edge and a torch stand off tool for mine, It beats spending another couple grand on a shear. I can get straight clean cuts quick and easy. I have a Miller Spectrum 375 and love it.

Grinder Safety side note: Grinding wheels and disks should NEVER be used on Aluminum, it will embed/cake up on/in the disk/wheel and it will expand when heated thru use of the disk/wheel and can cause the disk or wheel to explode.
