Re: NOS extreme bend hook ...did I pay to much ???

somebody above mentioned castings/forgings. These hooks were forged and not cast,,,,,right? I know somebody out there is pushing cast hooks. and there might be some confusion.... the factory ones were forged and never cast. castings would be a bit dangerous. Kinda scary and it will ruin the market to flood it with cast look alike hooks.

lets respect this hobby and not ruin the market. I for one will not buy hooks at any price while the market is being flooded with cast hooks. unsafe at any price.

I would be suspended from this forum if I stated what I thought of the person pushing castings.

as for the price, its worth what your willing to pay, I always lie and state a higher price than I paid. It puts the cheapskates on notice to rethink why they are in this hobby(and not bussiness).

I would have been willing to pay those amounts untill that certain somebody started pushing castings. It ruined the market and reflects very badly upon them.

The 2 extreme bends have the same symbol, but only one has a clear number. The other one you can see where the casting is bumped up where the number would be. The last one is a 69-72 hook with the same number.

The last 2 pics are the different 73-87 (91) hooks I am aware of.

There has been a couple of threads from guys wanting to reproduce these hooks, and yes castings have been talked about but I don't believe anyone has actually produced any at this point.

After doing a little research on different types of forging I believe the original hooks were drop forged. Meaning there is a mold but it's a single piece of steel heated and pounded into the mold by a VERY heavy machine/press.
I have no actual knowledge of this, this is just my belief !

You are correct on drop forged, and the guy that was going to do the cast ones, has changed his mind and is trying to get some drop forged

thanks for all the pics, I have a few sets of the flat straight hooks (one on the left) and a few sets of the 81-87 hooks,I was thinking that the 81-87 hooks would look good, what do you all think, they are bent,so that you have a right and a left hook, kind of like the 67-72 hooks

Re: NOS extreme bend hook ...did I pay to much ???

The extreme bend hook number ends with -34 ...the other ends with just -4 ????
The one I bought ends with -34 also. It's at the post office now so we'll know in a bit.
The USPS won't leave any packages here because of my German shepherds lol.
