Re: Updated Project Pics - '61 Vette Pick Up

Sweet looking truck, I have to keep up with this one. As soon as I'm done renovating the wifes kitchen it's time to get back on the 63 C-10. All the new body panels are sitting in the garage begging for the mig welder to come out and play.

Do you have any pics of the shaved drip rail as you did it? I'm planning on doing the same thing to get rid of the rust I have on the drip edge.

I got ambitious one day and just went for it. That was before I was really trying to take pics of everything as I went. Funny thing is I might do it again. The top has a few difficult waves near the back and on the step-up. I have a perfect top skin from another truck I might just swap out. I'd also like to clean/POR-15 and dynamat in between the inner and outer skins.

So if I do it I'll be sure to take pics of the process. It will be more difficult than the drip rail shaving. In that process you just cut and weld a little at a time. If I replace the top it'll be a little bit tricky getting it to line back up. Sure would be nice to know there's no cancer in there eating away at it though.

That's an awesome project; really nice metalwork on your part. Be a shame to cover it with paint. Would you consider a bare metal finish so we could lust out in the open?

If you have the space, equipment, and resources, it’s really just a matter of letting the tools do the work. I’m not an expert at this stuff by any means. I just use the stuff I have available or can find relatively cheap. I really appreciate the feedback though! I am currently working on the RR fender arch. I hope to have new pics to post soon. Thanks again guys!

Re: Updated Project Pics - '61 Vette Pick Up

A little progress over the last few days. I made the LR fender a few months ago so it wasn't fresh as to HOW I derived all the measurements and positioning So I had to reverse engineer my own work to make the RR match I still need to add the front lower lip like the other side, but I've added to my photobucket album and here are a few new ones:

That's awesome! They're never done are they? I want to have all the fab work/mock-up completed and moving under it's own power this summer. Then I'll tear it apart and do all the finish work. We're talkin a year minimum.

Re: Updated Project Pics - '61 Vette Pick Up

I've been doing a few things to the vette chassis and misc stuff not really worth posting. Plus the Suburban required my attention for a while. So... here's an update on the project.

The original radiator support was pretty solid except for the lower corner under the batt (where they all seem to rot). I was given another rad support that was pretty dinged up and tweaked, but for some reason the area that normally rots was good! So I did a little corner transplant surgery

You may ask why I didn't just buy a new one. Well, I considered that, but I also indented to modify the support to allow the vette radiator to mount inside it instead of behind it to allow me to use the vette fans. Otherwise there was not room between the radiator and the front frame crossmember. So I chose to repair mine and see how the mod went.

It actually worked out really well. The radiator now sits inside the core support and the fan assembly fits like a dream. Check it out...

Next I'm going to get rid of all the louvers and unnecessary holes. Then I'll grind down the welds, strip and primer it. May end up powdercoating it in the end.
