Red oak and nothing goes into the bed without a moving blanket going down first.

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
Hey va72longhorn, your bed looks nice. Please tell me you finished both sides of the wood! Looking at the ends it appears you only did that top. That could spell trouble later.

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
Here's mine oak with ebony stain and like 5-6 coats of spar. notice no bed hold down bolts.
best thing is the wood only cost $60 from a local mill an I got the pick of the best peices. I think the manufactured bamboo would look pretty cool,or even some birdseye maple would be all right.

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
Probably cause we have so many choices of woods we never had before-Waitin for somebody to do bamboo!!! Besides pine not being a hardwood goes against it also.............jim

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
I was thinking about using yellow pine. Was just wondering why no one uses it. I know it is soft but that's what came in the truck. Thought it would be a little different.

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
Guys, those are unbelievably nice. I'm a pretty good wood worker and I have a lot appreciation for both the wood and mechanical patience it takes to put them together in that condition and keep them ther....nice stuff.
That said, I can't go there myself...I'm too damn practical on my intentions for the bed of the truck....but I can always appreciate it from afar. All Good Coleye

Re: Newest Pictures of WOOD BEDS
Good eye, AusTex ! If you look close you'll see that only a few of the bolts are actually in. This pic is actually when it was together as a "test fit". Also one of the reasons that you can see the rear edge since the wood isnt pulled down tight yet. I plan on treating and sealing the bottom and unseen edges with a kreosote based, black fence paint that I use here on the farm.
I love the color of your truck in your avatar. Looks like the orange that GM used on the 'vettes and Avalanches? Any other pics? |
