I chopped one of those up one time to fit in the recessed area with a Dremel. Took a long time to trim the contours down just right for it to fit but it looked good. It ended up being in 2 pieces, a lower and upper piece.

Best Buy in Greeley has the 1/4" trim ring, I'll P/U tomorrow,...thanks cochino! Both places I called were familiar with Metra,...thanks for the tip, staggerd86c-10! I'd bet you could buy Metra online, but I did not start a search.

no problem i already bought the variety pack from my distributor today. send me some pics when you get if finished i still have to wait for my truck to get out the body shop to start tinkering with it.

That could be a really long wait. What are you having done at the body shop?

full paintjob it should be done within a week or so. im shaving mirrors, drip rails, cab seams, stake hole pockets, wiper cowl(except for windshield wipers). its been in the works for the last 2 months.

Yo! Y'all!
Well I got the Metra 1/4" trim ring but I ddin't have anymore room for it than the stereos' outer trim ring, and I couldn't figure out how else to use it, so I gave up and installed the stereo in the dash without it.
cochino12, what the heck did you stereo installation guys DO with that ring?
Anyway, it came out quite nicely without any gaps, and just as snug an installation as I've ever done! Looks great. I'll get some pics and post 'em 'cause it sounds like everybody has had trouble with this part of stereo installation in these trucks,...and I can see why!!

Yo! Came out SO nice I started a stereo thread for installation pics, but here's the result:



I'm quite pleased! Accelerator pedal mounting bracket will be used for ground and rear support bracket for the stereo, and I've got a pigtail on my positive batt. cable that I've been saving just for the stereo.
BTW, that stereo sits flush with the recessed area,...can't quite tell in the pic.

All done! Quite the stereo too! Volume at 25 is loud, 30 is hard to deal with, and it goes beyond THAT! It'll take me a LONG time to learn all that this Kenwood can do, but I've figured out the iPod and tuner basic functions for today.
My speaker boxes sound fantastic with the 92db 6.5" Kenwoods times four,...amasing!
I hope I NEVER have to do another installation,...my neck has been KILLING me since 1100 this AM and I didn't gett'er done until about 1700,...all that under the dash and squirming about!

My paper templates were different left and right, so your cab corners would be unlike mine. Procrastinate no more,...get out there and start drawing on a couple of BIG pieces of paper!
Best of luck! Sounds like YOUR stereo is gonna be ALOT better than mine!

meh... mine's going to be pieced together over time.. (im patient on stereos i'll wait for the sale! i got m kickers for 30 bucks!)

BUT your stereo got me thinking.. and asking ( got a guy here who owns a shop been doing it 30 years or so, but his employees are assholes.. he's cool so i chat with him and bs .. but i mentioned the 6.5's and he lit up.. filled me in alot on it..)
those quad 6.5s are alot better then 6x9's when running subs..
so we did a layout on mine etc... now i'll recommended guys to him..
(that's the deciding factor me on a stereo shop, f they just want my money then they can kiss ma patoodi!)

Yeah, the surface area of the two 6.5" woofers is larger than a single 6x9", so a larger pressure wave, and each of them has individual midrange and tweeters, so better overall balance of highs, lows and midrange.
Geeze,...sounds almost like babble. Sorry, ya gotta remember, I WAS a SONAR tech in the NAVY (and a stereo and music nut to this day!).
Mine were EASY to fab! And they DO sound great!! I'll add a subwoofer later,...just plugs into the RCA jacks on the back of the Kenwood!

and stereo install compared to any tech work is hella easy..

Actually, everytime I buy a stereo from Crutchfield, they send me the appropriate mastersheet for the installation, thanks. Good for others to know about!
I keep a booklet that they sent me long ago called The Installation Specialist/Installation Doctor, along with a couple of their Car Stereo Installation booklets,...been buying from Crutchfield since they started in '76,...got my first catalog from my 1st class petty officer when I got on board my ship!!

You should see how much ibuprofen, beer, and Tylenol it took for me to survive the day after, however!!
