Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Weekend update from M7:

Added a Lokar shift linkage, swapped the rear bumper from my Blazer, transmission fluid change, new water pump, swapped new-to-me eyebrows, chopped off rear exit exhaust, removed heater plenum and associated junk, aligned the grille shell, added new beefy ground straps to engine / cab, replaced pitman arm and did a CLR trial run on the paint patina. I'm taking Sunday off because I'm tired.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Here are the embarrassing before pics of the rusty floor areas. One spot under the cowl needs attention as well.

I have since plasma'd out a few spots and sprayed it all with ospho for rust treatment. Before the rockers can go on I'll have to repair the cab supports which means removing the clip. If the clip is off then might as well remove the motor / transmission and so forth.... ugh.

Oh and I am not the hack that removed the rockers in such a sloppy manner. :/

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

My floorboard rust repairs are almost done - just need to pull the front clip, replace the pass lower pillar support and weld in the passenger rocker panel.

I went ahead and laid down some rust cap paint, then seam sealer then topped it all with sound deadener. It runs from the cowl all the way to the line just below the upper gas tank mounts. Already a vast improvement over the rattles and engine noise.

I have carpet, new door felts and floor vent seals to install next - Hopefully it'll be tight enough to keep the dirt dobbers out of there while it sits around waiting to be worked on.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Floor repairs finished
rockers on
encapsulator painted top, bottom, cowl and inside doors
seam sealed floors and cowl
installed new felts and door rubber
slapped on door panels / arm rests
refurbished the floor vents

I like how the doors close now.

Here's a video of an open / shut:

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Made a a tad more progress today -

•primed my drip rail (seam seal tomorrow)
•added a transmission mount (PO had a chunk of 2" square tubing in there instead)
•touched up other seam seal areas underneath
•added my new to me GMC fender emblems
•took some current pics

I also found some rebuilt 062 vortec heads on craigslist that I'm thinking about buying myself for my birthday.... Then I can install the Edelbrock fuel injection, serpentine setup, 700-r4 and other goodies that I've got waiting for deployment.

Too bad I can't do *this* 5 days a week and sit in a cube for 2.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Update:

Pulled the front and rear glass to touch up the seams and add CST trim. The dash is sanded and cleared to give the worn look that the outside has - maybe a tad too far but I can always cover it later.... Whatchu think?

Glass install was less than smooth but it's at least done now. Thank goodness this is a patina truck and not a show truck or I'd be in jail for breaking the fingers of the install guys. Grr.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Oh, and on a side note, the glass guys were EXTREMELY confused at the concept of having a truck all updated underneath with a rusty old faded exterior. (mission accomplished)
