Not to offend, but I think $1,000 for a set of cast aluminum wheels isn`t reasonable at all.Not when you can get other cast wheels for 1/2 that or some drop forged & billet for the same price.

Either way,I think everybody`s just showing whatever 8-lug designs they can to help this guy make his decicion based on as much of the "relm" as possible.Of course,no one`s going to shoe wheels they don`t like.
There are alot of choices, that`s for sure.
Very well said! And that's exactly why I posted the request...Just wanted to see what's out there!

All I know is we spent alot of time looking on-line at wheels and compared prices. Even picked up an entire magazine dedicated to nothing but wheels. No offense taken, but for a set of 4 20"X9" chrome 8 lug wheels with caps I still maintain this is reasonable.

Tim, I think we are both in the CSOB club... $1000 should buy at least 5 sets of wheels, with money left over for balancing the tires

O.D. or I.D? Hey,I just want to say I like what your doing with your truck.I can accept we go about or trucks different.I like`em all.I`ve seen how much higher a lg dia wheel can cost.I was just commenting on cast vs billet & drop forged. You can definately spend an "H" of alot on wheel these days.

I love my era-correct wheels. And when I saw YellowDog2`s truck in his avatar I just had to throw a shot of my former truck with slots. How often do you get a picture of exactly what your truck will look like if you used a certain wheel?

Here`s your truck at night w/slots:

Here`s another way to go:

Jeff,we`re in a few of the same clubs,I think?Alot in common.
Rcrahn, you should give YellowDog2 some of your resources you checked.I know I`ve seen page after page of 8-luggers all around.

That's what I would like to have for "dress shoes" on my '72. I have a set for it, but couldn't find anyone to widen them reasonably- so that's how I ended up with turbines. Who widened yours, and how much did it cost?

Ooops... I just noticed you are from Sweden, I probably won't want to pay for shipping to and from there!

Thanks for the pics, special-K...I'm definitely getting a tutorial on what's available out there in 8-lug wheels. I do, however, need more of a lesson in what are the pros/cons of different wheel types (e.g. cast vs billet and drop forged...or others). I've never had the need to buy wheels and don't know a lot about them...I do want to maintain my 3/4 ton hauling ability. Any info is appreciated!

It wasn't cheap to get them widened, I don't really remember but it was like $100+ per wheel and then the paint job on top of that.

Here is what I have for my 70 4x4. They are reasonably priced too I picked mine up for 100 each after some haggling, normally 120 each.

You won`t see any advantage with one material over the other in your application.Cast has been around forever and a broken wheel due to weakness in the material is rare.I`ve never seen it,personally. That`s what "all" your car & light truck aluminum wheels were until more recent years.I ran aluminum slots for years with 14.50/37x16.5s for years feeling I had a strong, maybe stronger, lighter wheel. And,that was back in my hard-core wheelin`days.I also ran the same combo on my work truck with a utility bed full of tools, loaeded bins/ladder rack/bed most of the time.It wasn`t until Weld came out advertising their drop forged the only wheels made for the stress of those really big offroad tires. They always pictured 44" tall tires. Then came billet everything which is just a name to drop as well as money to drop along with it.It would matter on a "frail" wheel designed for looks over function.I like mass on my truck wheels, personally.Cast is cheapest, then drop drop forged, then billet.
I ran Welds on a truck with 285/75s and the weld that joins inner & outer failed letting the wheel try to come in half.Thank God I lost my air before the wheel failed.Cast are one piece,so you won`t have that to worry about. Those Welds (Outbacks) were $225@ and only had a 1 year warranty.I slapped a set of American Racing AR23s for $100@ with a 3 year warranty.Go figure. You`d think the "better" product would have a "better" warranty.

Weld was sold a few years back and the quality went down really fast. I had heard of others having the same problem with the splitting.

This is a cast wheel. It looks good and is reasonably priced at $235ea.

To make them look really nice, I would cut the caps about an inch to give them a cleaner look. I like those rims. I spent alot of time looks and came across these

Re: want pics of 8 lug wheels

A lot of places carry wheels for these trucks. The problem is that most of their databases do not go back far enough. Generally for the 8 lug stuff, anything listed on early 90's Suburban 2500's and even the 8 lug early 2000's Siverado wheels will fit without issue. You just need to be sure to get a 0 or lower offset. Most of the stuff that is higher than 0 will rub the suspension. check these out.. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...2&autoModClar=
