Re: What was your first C/10 love?

Mine was my grand dad's 69 gold 1/2 ton LWB fleet. I remember the after market AC, the factory brush guard and the head ache rack be had on it as a kid. He bought it new in 69 and it still the only new vehicle he has bought to this date. It was a straight 6, 3 OTT. He gave it to a guy around his part of the country for some work around his place not to long ago.....Mikey

Re: What was your first C/10 love?

My 70 is my first love (of these anyways). Honestly until just before I got the 70, I never gave these years much thought.

Then I got HOOKED.

Re: What was your first C/10 love?

My first c10 was a 71 lwb 1/2 ton with a 250/4speed with more rust than a ,,,,,I don't know what has more. All four wheel wells were shot (all the way through could see the engine from outside with the hood closed and could see the other side of the bed while crouched down to the tire.) The floor boards weren't any better but I didn't realize how bad until I got rid of it. Being 17 I pop rivited some sheet metal on the inside and filled the outside with body filler! Yes I used close to 8 gallons of bondo! Swapped a 327 vette engine in with a power glide, until I burned the tranny up and then swapped to a th350 behind the 327. It passed the 15 foot test (looked pristene at 15 feet) with flying colors for body straightness and ran like a dream.
Right after I turned 19 I ended up with a bed off of a 69(from my dads truck but thats another story) with NO RUST at all.

About 6 years after I got the 71, I found a 79 Blazer 4x4 with a 396/th350(with all the reciepts for the rebuild of the engine and tranny) so I tried to sell my truck. After sitting on the truck advertised at 500.00(wasn't worth 100.00 by time I was done with it) for almost 6 months, I started catch flack from my landlord about it so I stripped the engine/tranny out and took it to the crusher.
When the forklift came out to the trailer to pick it up, he stuck 1 fork though the passenger window and started lifting. As he lifted, the cab shell came off the floorpan and the frame hadn't moved off the trailer. The suspension hadn't even unloaded. Like I said I didn't realize how bad the floors were. When they wrote me the check I almost died. I got 470.00 and some change for it. I'm not sure if it was the price of scrap being high or the amount of bondo in it but, I figured at the time I should get that check to the bank before they cancel it. I loved that truck even though it was a SERIOUS POS, but was hooked on the body lines and over all appearance of this body style. The fact they are easy to work on and have pretty readily available parts,,,,,,what's not to love!

Re: What was your first C/10 love?

I got it in 1989 . A 1970 CST 402bb ,400turbo ,posi, tack, tilt, air, but no power steering or brakes. This thing was a bear to steer. Why someone would order a big block and not power steering is nuts. I sold it in 93 to a kid in atco NJ .. I think there is a member on here from atco.. wonder If he ever saw it ??

I liked the 67 to 72 c/10's as long as I can remember , the first one I have memorie's of is dad's 69 short stepside he bought it new it was $1695.00 I used to have all the paperwork on it from when he bought it ,,,
dad sold it in about 1978 I remember the guy that bought it drove it another ten year's or so after that I don't know where it went ,,,,
I'd build it back if I could ever find it again but I can't find the vin number to it now ?

Re: What was your first C/10 love?

If they called them C10s back then, my 1st Chevy truck was a 61 Apache. SWB Step, small window, 6 cyl 3 speed. That eyebrow hood made it ugly as sin. It used to be a Florida State Road Department work truck. I bought it in the mid 70's as a teenager for a whopping $100. The 230 six cyl engine was in a basket. I loved my "Big Ugly". Couldn't kill it. Wore it slap out about 3 times over. Lots of great memories and storys to tell. Except for that hood, I wish I had it back. It's the main reason I bought my 69 some 30 years later.

Re: What was your first C/10 love?

My first C 10 love was my girlfriend's 67 fleet, 327, gold with white top. Ex farm truck and the engine was worn smooth out but we loved it anyway. Plus factor was the big farm gas tank mounted in the bed. If we ran out on the cab tank we just pulled over and refilled it from the big tank. This was in 1971. The truck is long gone but I married that girl and still have her (36 yrs) and for the last 10 yrs a 69 stepside project in the shop. Yeah, she is a truck girl.
