Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
So if I understand you correctly, you didn't use any of the sensors provided with the gauges? You just pulled everything from the PCM using the BIM? What year is your motor and computer? What EFI wiring harness did you use?

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
The only sensor used was the oil pressure. Everthing else comes from the PCM (speed, tach, and water temp). 2005 5.3, with the factory harness I modified.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
Crash - I think I may have found the answer to this. I was talking to the guy building the harness for my son's truck and he told me you can go into the tune and turn this feature on. Here's a screenshot of where you go in HPTuners. Go to system, and select the options tab. Then add a 1 in the oil pressure column. Let me know if it works.

Hey Crash, Do you have any pictures showing how/where you mounted your PCM along with that other electronic stuff? It appears to be under the dash somewhere but I have no idea how you found room for all that. I've looked, and can't seem to find a spot for even my computer, let along all that other stuff. Thanks |

Mooseknuckles, that is one sweet looking guage panel. The American Muscle guages look very nice.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
I made my own dash. Used the phantom gauges and was really easily (except fuel gauge, but thats the sending unit thats bad) Used bolts with green led's for the turn signal and just a simple blue led for the brights to make it look clean.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
I just got My Gauges in the mail today!! Can't wait to build the gauge panel!!
Speedo (with high beam indicator) Tach (with check engine light) Fuel level (can bus) Oil Pressure (can bus) Tranny Temp (can bus) Water Temp (can bus) Volts (can bus) Looks to be super simple to wire it all up!

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
I'm going to use a late model stock fuel pump modulator with a fuel level sender on it. That gets run through the wiring to the computer, that then sends it via can bus signal out. At least that is the way it's supposed to work according to PSI. they verified for me that the fuel level signal was sent to the computer and then out to the gauges via can bus rather than coming to the gauges a different way.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
Thanks! The wiring looks really simple. I would have gone with a can bus speedo and tach, but they don't have them in the right size yet. And no amount of bribing by me was going to get them built anytime soon.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
Quick update guys. I finally got enough wiring done on my install so I could at least test the gauges and after a few trial and errors, I got everything working!!!! Using the Dakota Digital VHX gauges and their OBD BIM interface, I'm able to pull just about everything the CAN BUS monitors and display it on my gauge interface, Check engine light, speed, tach, water temp, oil press, tranny temp, IAT, OAT, and I even got it to display the gear indication!!!! I'm extremely happy right now and I can't wait to fire this bad boy up, . Crash I also figured out a way to wire up the BIM so you don't have to jam up your OBDII port. Let me know if you want the info. Sorry for my exuberance, but it was a banner day on moving my build forward.

Re: Gauges used for LSx swaps
Hartrod, does the PCM receive oil pressure data on the 2005 5.3 ? It doesn't pull up on my HPTuners,
I assumed the PCM didn't receive it. All these are some nice gauge setups. |
