Re: 66 frame off resto-mod

There are a bunch of folks that do the harnesses and programming. We are planning on using Speartech or Current Performance and having my harness re-worked. There are a lot of board sponsors that make motor mount kits (ECE and CPP come to mind) and there have been some good reports on them. I wanted to use the stock motor mounts so my builder is making custom mounts to accept the stock motor mounts (Pics coming). For the fuel pump, I got the entire tank and pump from the 08 so RRC is going to adapt the stock fuel pump to my existing tank as the stock one has the regulator built in and my motor is a single line feed. You can use the vette regulator and external pump method that a lot of board members have used but you need to see if your engine is a single line or supply/return type. We haven't gotten to the adapting line phase but from what I have read, there are adaptors available from a company (Dorman) that should work. I'll keep posting pics of the engine swap stuff as I get them... |

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Along with the engine mounting, the wiring is boxed up and off to be cleaned up and setup for standalone running. We chose Current Performance to do the harness re-work and programming as they came recommended by several people and I liked the fuse/relay setup they use as it lends to an OEM look and feel. I'll let you all know how it works out and post pics of the completed harness when it comes back...

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
And the new Trans mount. The CPP mount would not work as it places the engine at a bad angle

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Well, the truck looked decent, but rust has found the bottom of the cab.
Cab on the home made dolly, looks like cab corners are also needed. So much for the rust free southern cal body. The cab is on the way to Cal Blast to be media blasted so the rust repair can begin. |

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Here are the KBS shots. For those that don't know what KBS is, it is like most other moisture cured urethane (por 15, rust bullet, etc). The nice thing about it is that it is somewhat UV stable and is available in satin.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
I wasn’t going to, but they are growing on me and now I think I will. I have to figure out how I can better get them balanced as when the stick on weights are put in the inside, they rub on the caliper so I could not get a solid computer balance.

As the other guys have said, it's looking good.
I'm curious to see how the cab looks when you get it back from the blaster.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
I should have the post blaster pics tomorrow. RRC told me that he had Cal Blast do the lower portion of the cab first with a more aggressive material so he can do all the metal repair and once completed he will send it back to finish blasting with soda.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
While we try to get a good engine RRC had some time to figure out the fuel pump.
My existing tank was located in back, not sure if it was custom made or not. We still need to clean the inside of the tank, but I wanted to use the stock fuel pump and sender so here is the solution. Ant it all completed ready to feed somthing. |
