Re: Coolest shop couch ever(to me)

Well, here goes. First use a chalkline or straightedge to mark a line about a quarter inch in front of the vertical box braces across the bed. Cut the floor and the underlying braces by any means neccessary. I used a cutoff wheel and a sawzall. After you get through the floor, start cutting the bedside about a quarter inch in front of the vertical bed brace from the inside of the box.
Go across the bedrail, then straight down the bedside all the way to the bottom.

Now remove the bulkhead bolts and break the spotwelds. You'll need to trim the top rail of the bulkhead a little bit to fit nicely to the portion of the bed you just cut off. Bolt the bulkhead to the vertical box braces using the bolts you just took out of it.

Now here's where I screwed up the first time. I reinforced the back (wallside) of the bulkhead and drilled it on 16" centers to use like 16 or 20 big lag bolts. While this is fine to do, the weight of whatever is on the tailgate pulls on the vertical box braces. The thing to do is use the lag bolts in the bulkhead but ALSO drill a hole near the top of the stake pocket and use a good size lag bolt in each. They will obviously have to go in at an angle, but that's where the weight hangs from. There were no studs behind my box braces so I had to cut drywall and put in blocking. I plan on fixing it when I redo the shop.

When it comes to lighting it up, I hid an outlet behind the bumper. For the taillights, I gutted the taillight housings and screwed in one of those 4 bulb Christmas light strings in each one. For my tailgate lights and license plate light, I'm running them off a puck lighting transformer.

If you have any more questions, let me know.
