Re: Shop improvements and upgrades. Better Space!

So a pretty big crew showed up early for the concrete pouring the next morning. Concrete trucks started showing up at 7:30.

One thing I did notice about this company were their trailers. Every truck seemed to be pulling a trailer loaded with equipment for this job and others. They were all Imperial trailers that I was showing here...

When you’ve been waiting and planning for 21 years to put concrete in the back half of the shop, you get pretty pumped when you see this....

Lot a concrete.....what about 50 yards? looks like what i was looking at when pouring mine back in the late 90's and I still cringe over the bill back then. Could not imagine doing it again today.......but.... nothing like working on concrete vs dirt. Very nice shop you have there

Thanks Mike, yeah, I think they were keeping the wire pulled up. Sure hope so anyway!

I just formed up a pad today for a buddy of mine for a patio...24x24...[same guy that's letting me build Columbus in his shop]..thankfully we only need 9yrds of concrete...were gonna pour it next week if the weather cooperates...
It does Greg. We do have crawdads here, though we are as far south as St. Louis. It is sure good to have buddies to help out...good luck with the pour.

Very cold spring here as winter won’t let go. Usually by now we are mushroom hunting.

Ha...this was this past Monday. Boys had a blast. So did Gran’pa.

Re: Shop improvements and upgrades. Better Space!

So the guys got started on the wainscoting metal today. When I had this installed 20 years ago gaps were left around the concrete post pilings.

They removed the existing metal. This was the side where the posts were corroding.

Re: Shop improvements and upgrades. Better Space!

The new metal is cut close around the concrete pilings, placed in J channel and sealed. This, coupled with proper grading, should greatly reduce water intrusion down low and eliminate pipe corrosion.

Hopefully they will finish this soon, then move on to electrical and door framing work.

Yep! It looks more finished.

They were able to install the new metal on the North side, West side is done and East side is stripped off. If it doesn’t rain they should finish this up tomorrow.

The builder asked if I could go pick the metal up. Shoot yeah, this was my first chance to make use of the new trailer.

Re: Shop improvements and upgrades. Better Space!

I agree on the LED lights!!!

I used 16 t8 fixtures in my new shop that I “inherited” from work. I straight wired them and converted to 6k led bulbs. The shop is BRIGHT.

That is a good way to do it for sure. Today we have an amazing selection of lighting options...and it can be confusing. Way better than the old bulbs.

Lol yeah maybe Mike. He has old metal cans wired up in the rafters too. Might be some cool collectible 5 gallon buckets. The guys were doing a pretty good job. I asked for insulation in the new wall section, just in case I ever decide to finish and heat this area.

Very cool new work space you are finishing. You must be so excited. I used Led lights in my shop as well. Each fuxture put out more light than 2 40w florescent and use half the power. It sure comes in handy living in the country where there are lots of skilled ppl to help.

Thanks Lower. Yep, we’ve been pretty pumped and will be selective what goes back in there. Good light is really nice...one of my pet peeves is poor lighting.
We are pretty fortunate to be connected with some talented folks. Here, we don’t need google reviews, you know these people and what kind of work they do.

Re: Shop improvements and upgrades. Better Space!

The new doors were installed today and are duplicates of the door in the shop part of the building. I used Kevin again. He is a small businessman that installs and repairs the overhead doors at businesses and dealerships in the area.

On January 1 2017 the shop door rolled up and wouldn’t go back down. Disconnected the release from the power unit and it still wouldn’t go down. Keep in mind the shop is heated and it is cold here on January 1.

So I called the service number on the door sticker and it was Kevin’s cell phone. Left a message and figured I wouldn’t hear from him until the next day. Wife and I were able to get the door down to save the heat. A few minutes later, Kevin called back, apologized for missing my call as he was at his kids ball game and wondered how he could help.
