Re: turbo task force

Steadily working on the truck, throwed the fans on the radiator, modified the alternator so it would sit a bit lower. Started running the Trans cooler lines. Got the good hinges Powdercoated and threw the hood on the truck so I could snug up the core support brackets.

Re: turbo task force

Well still chugging away. Had to go out to a job on the yukon river and fill in for a guy last week. Wrapped up most of the wiring, tested the fuel system for leaks.(no leaks) Waiting for my intercooler and then I should be able to finish that part of the turbo system. ended up using a fmic, couldn't find anywhere for the air to water intercooler to fit(rather bulky). Also got new seat upholstery for my 88-98 bench seat, I used acme auto headlining fairly affordable and well built too. Going to unlock the factory pcm and start working on a startup tune!!

Re: turbo task force

Smaller front tires. Much better.

Working on intercooler mounting. Unfortunately I have to run some sort of custom grille. The outer ring fits but the vertical and horizontal bars do not:

New seat cover....I hate hog rings:

Primed the oil system in my hurry I cross threaded the oil feed line on the turbo. But the truck did start on some residual fuel pressure for about 2 seconds. Filled the transmission and cooling system. Getting close

Thanks Kim, i wanted to keep it simple, heck its even getting a rubber floor-mat again, i wish i had left the dash and door panel color original though, it was a light brown (thought it was kinda weird for the exterior color of the truck). But i painted it a satin blue. the inside cab wiring is basically done, just need to go grab a basic heater switch and pop it in. i used the factory ignition switch and routed it through a push button starter switch, it looks awesome, like it came from the factory that way.

Also finished up the battery wiring and put a "pollak" master disconnect switch on it down in the foot-well area on the driver-side. Very inconspicuous and out of the way.

Just want to get this thing running and to the driveline shop before i'm out of town for the summer (starting aprrox. April 1st, kinda bummed, i wont be able to enjoy it this year but in all honesty hearing it start up and spool will make me happy, but if i can get a safe tune dialed in my dad said he'd finish it up and drive the hell out of it.

Talking Re: turbo task force

Received my new 90 degree 4 AN turbo oil feed fitting, got it installed and it snapped right off, luckily had one more lying around that i wasn't too keen on using but it appears to be working fine.

Buttoned up some more loose ends on the engine side of things really dont have much left but to cinch down the intercooler piping and add one more mount for the transmission cooler.

Went ahead and stated it, right up and was making 60-80 PSI of oil pressure, only ran for about 5-10 seconds , my tune was still the stock one with just VATS disabled, so i loaded my new speed density 2 bar map tune on but i think my starter took a dump from trying to prime the oil system, stays engaged after the trucks starts.

Off to get it tested, hopefully haul this thing to the driveline shop next week. lots of small loose ends to tie up, mainly interior and weatherstripping.

Wheel shop screwed up one of my front wheels while installing the new tires last week, chipped and scratched it up pretty bad, said no way they did it. So i called the owner and the counter guy calls back the next day and agreed to take care of it. I'm sure it will suffer worse damage once i drive it on our Alaskan roads.

ill try to post a video once i can get the starter issue figured out, hopefully on my new tune it will run for longer...fingers crossed. And i know

Re: turbo task force

Okay had to play with the tune, got a new starter, the chartering noise is the wastegate opening and closing (no spring installed)

Re: turbo task force

well i've gone to work for the summer, so not much in the way of updates.. i may get some time to work on it when i'm on R&R. The major portion of the project is complete though and it runs, so ill be gathering up some more parts and hitting it hard next fall.

I pondered doing this a couple of ways, go to the junkyard and find something that works...but i figured for 299 bucks the CPP kit was the route to go. comes complete with pedal and bracketry. hard to be IMO

Re: turbo task force

Well back home after a two month hitch, messing with turbo truck a little bit had the driveline built and have been doing laps around the neighborhood, running well..needs to have tune smoothed out but it makes boost. We tossed the bed on this evening. Note this pictures is at 12 AM in alaska...
