Re: LS engine swap info
If you want to do your own computer tuning I suggest HPtuners
You will have to have some tuning done to remove at least the VATS. I would also assume most of us doing swaps will not be running a lot of the emissions equipment, so that can be removed from the tune as well. Once you get your engine up and running you can also edit other things like the timing and fuel curves (similar to re-jetting your carb and adjusting your distributor for the old schoolers). Additionally, if you run an electronically controlled tranny (ie 4L60E) you can change the shift parameters. Very usefull tool. But, be careful because if you don't know what you're doing you can blow up your engine or ECM. Also, this program allows you to monitor all of the sensors the engine is putting out, check and clear Check Engine Lights (DTCs) etc.

In my opinion if you own a computer controlled vehicle then tuning software is a must have. Should have been included with the purchase of the car That's one reason the LS swap is in the works for our blazer, I already have the tuning software. Thanks Thealien for all the info, when I get some more time I'll definately look through it all. |

Re: LS engine swap info
did not read everything so sorry if i missed it but in a 4x4 can i expect to get better MPG's with an ls or lt swap? someone told me that in a 72 with a 355 and an edelbrock carb that would probably be as good as it gets, but i can not hardly belive that with 6.0's and 5.3 getting 15+ mpg in a new truck it has to get better than an old 355 ( mabey not)

I can tell you right now, my 72 blazer with it's 355, mild crane cam, performer rpm intake and 750 holley carb, 350 turbo, 3.07 gears and 33" tall tires. I get 13 mpg around town in stop and go. On the highway cruising at 70 mph at 2400 rpms, I get 16 mpg consistently. No overdrive, no fuel injection. Just a good tune and sensable driving. With the 6.0 (364 cubes) and 4L60E I am certain I'll do even better. For starters, the factory tunes in the trucks are pretty lame, with single digit timing in the tables, etc....it's no wonder the new trucks aren't that great on mileage. All the emissions stuff to run through doesn't help much either. Also there are a few tricks I can do in the tune to find 2-4 mpg in the part throttle areas. Doing the math,,cruising as 70 mph with this setup is only 16-1700 rpms (I'd like to see it a tad higher) and a gear change may be in order. In any event, by the time I'm done, 20mpg or more highway isn't out of the question. I tune my 4th gen camaros, and get 30+ mpg highway out of those with the LS1/6 speed combo. |

Re: LS engine swap info
Started my LS swap and the 98 camaro exhaust manifolds did not fit using the transadapt plates and the stock motor mounts.
I may be using shorty headers instead for the exhaust set up. Plenty of room near the rear of the motor. I broke one of the rear coils as it hit the brake booster. (accident) You may think of removing these before installing. I used a Poly mount with a single stud in the middle and only had to move the engine mount to the rear using one of the existing holes. The drive shaft will need to be shortened. Using one from a burb. Just wanted to add this to the list. Thank you, Luis G. |

Re: LS engine swap info
Are there brackets that work in the K10 frame? My truck has the GMC 305 V6 so I cant use just an adapter plate. All the mount kits I can find are for 2WD trucks.

Re: LS engine swap info
is it true that if i am running the truck intake, i do not need the corvette regulator filter unit? I can just run the external fuel pump and a filter to the rail that on the truck intake has a integrated regulator?

Re: LS engine swap info
I know they are 10mmX1.5 but not sure on the length. I "think" it was 30 or 40mm.
