Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Just a small update,... the body is completely stripped and today I dropped it off at the blasters.

I hopefully have it back by tomorrow and will primer the blasted parts and than we will start working on the floors, etc...

You guys don't mess around. This sounds like an awesome build. Do you happen to know what media your blaster is using? Just curious what is used over in Germany.

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

I will get this one at lower pressure sand blasted, otherwise the rust on the floors will not go away. They also can sodablast, baking powder blasting ( this is very popular as it is very smooth to the chassis ), soda ice pearl blasting and glass and walnut blasting they usually do at the shop.

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Thanks Dino,... at the moment we can just work on the cab and get this one as much finished as possible until the other parts arrive. Pats new C10 is coming also in a few weeks and I am getting my 61 Parkwood also today,... so enough projects to work on!

I think the 64 color chart is somewhere on the forum.

Good looking project.

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Well some updates on the progress and a big step backwards the project took ... the truck came from the blaster and they did some really nice work. Pat and I prepared to spray the primer and it all looked good,... we strayed the first layer and at the second coat it happend - the primer cracked. **** - all work can be redone ... waited money on blasting and primer and we can redo all of this again. Well I am happy it happened at this stage but still I was very frustrated on this yesterday. Here the pics ...

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Well that does suck. I would be talking to the primer mfg and or the supplier.

I do know that if you were using PPG primer, and it was bad primer, they will pay to have your cab re-blasted. But I see you said you were using HOK Epoxy primer, and I don't know about their policies.

I thought there were some very good paints made in Germany?

Did your blaster use soda on the cab at all? If so that could be the issue. Everything I have heard about the after effects of soda blasting is not good. There are a few paint mfg's that will not guarantee their paint if it is applied over a soda blasted surface. PPG is one of them. I will never have anything soda blasted. There are better medias available.

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Some updates:

It is so far a slow project, as the parts ar still missing. I have received all parts for the frame from portwebuilt but all the sheetmetall for the cab is missing and was forgotton in the LA port. So this will be here hopefully in 4 weeks from now.

We have finished to assamble to complete from with the great parts from Nate and have these now all at the blaster and than powedercoaters.
The frame and the rear end will be finished satin black and all other parts get a satin gun metall finish. I think this will look nice.

I do have a high hump cover, but I will need to look and see if I have the mating piece at the firewall.

Re: Project '64 C-10 Truck - built in Germany

Little update ...

Thanks to Del most of the parts are finally here in Germany,... and I can start the building of the frame. We built in the drop kit from Nate all in and now everything is at the powdercoaters.

The frame and rear end is a semigloss black and most of the suspensionparts are in a semigloss gunmetall grey. Should look nice if all built together.
