Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Well if you have a old lumber mill close by go by there and get some old rough cut planks thats been sitting out in the weather awhile so it has the weathered look then just cut to size if you have to narrow them its hid by the metal strips. Oh you do have to cut a shallow groove the length of them for the metal strips to sit in. If you need them thinner just have the bottom side planed down to the right thickness.

Good idea. No old lumber yards I know of close but I'll check around... Thanks for the idea!

Yeah, I asked him before I took it on...he has done a couple of his own trucks and he's rebuilt several totalled scionxb's by taking a good front and a good back and making one good out of two totals...they look perfect when done and dmv approves them for resale so I figure if he can do that...he can handle a roof swap [/QUOTE] Lol yeah he should defiantly know how to swap out the roof!

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Pics in a few...I feel like I did when I got my first car...seriously...I'm almost mad at myself for being so excited. After getting it off the dolly and pushing it up the driveway I talked to the PO about it for about 10 minutes and then when he left....proceeded to dig in. He left about 6:00 and I came in for one water break and that's it...too much fun! Have to watch my two youngest now so my wife can go to the store and get medicine for our 5yr old so I won't be getting more time tonight.

LOL I know exactly how you feel.
I am never more happy then when I get to tear into my truck. Its just me and the machine. If there is a mistake its my mistake. If its done right I did it right. I can look at it with pride knowing my blood and sweat went into its creation. Its my creation, my vision manifest, Mine. |

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Definitely. Although the only other time I enjoyed a truck this much was my other patina ride. I think it's because I can see major improvements with a little work and use it w/out worrying about scratching it

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Board member Hertzdaddy (Eric) came over today to check out my truck stuff and graciously offered to lend a hand. Thanks again! Got the hood on. Of course it's never easy ....one of the nutserts had rusted out and pulled through. Thankfully was still bolted to the hinge. Hinge is shot but that's not a big deal....will put a better set on I have later....after I have a chance to paint them. More details and pictures late this evening likely....got 6 things to do between now and 10

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I also have a complete disc set up from a 72 truck, I miss the privacy curtain in the back window and those wooden lites. Starting to look like a truck.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
stock (used=patina) bumper going on for now. Have another bumper I'm thinking about sectioning and reworking a set of outer brackets to tuck it in closer on the ends to show that subtle mod to potential clients. If I do that I will spring for a rear sport bumper for the step and do a hidden hitch.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
that curtain has me curious of truck options during the time since the cab Im grabbing up has push buttons all around the rear window inside the cab like a vinyl top cover the bed almost but no such thing found just the remnants of those buttons

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Not sure they were ever even a dealer option....just a bunch of guys modifying trucks to their taste at the time....like guys putting tons of stickers, ground efx, and colored tint on their imports. It is coolto them at the time but looking back loses its' appeal (or small wheels and tilt beds on minitrucks....you know who you are

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Sounds like fun (not the sanding part )
More details on today's work. The nutsert had pulled completely through with a little rusty sheetmetal left attached and a bigger hole where it came from....normally this would call for a bigger patch and new nutsert....but this is a budget build/patina truck so I break out the grinder and welder. At first metal was just blowing out but eventually I got some decent tacks and was able to build off of those to fill the hole. Got it ground down and bolted up. As mentioned...hinges are shot but I have about 8 pair to choose from Got some extra lights off the back....made in the usa so they must have been put on the truck many years ago.... got the passenger door panel off after dealing with a siezed and stripped screw. Lubed up the inner workings and swapped out the broken handle for a decent used 67 specific handle I have. Will check the driver's side condition and replace if my other one is better.
