Drove it for the first time today. Little bouncy with the air bags I'm sure I'll get used to it. Just need to get it running better and I can drive it every day.

Wow, I can't believe you were able to shine up the blue paint like that! I'll bet it was a lot of work, but looks way better man. Nice truck.

My wife and I have been in a similar situation, she's been fighting some heavy physical ailments for the past few years, so it takes a lot out of her to spend a day in the shop. Of course buying her long time dream car for her to work on (1963 Cadillac series 62) has done wonders for her too. She and I both are going to be learning body repair and paint together this next year, and I think she is even more excited about it than I am. Consider yourself lucky my friend, it is a rare breed that has a genuine interest and desire to get down and dirty. Seems like she is doing a damn fine job too, truck looks great! Congrats on your first drive! |

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck
I've been driving my truck everyday and loving it. It took a week or so to get it running well. I have done a lot of work but I've had know time to take pictures.
• round outside mirrors • chromies with baby moons • Kick panels with speakers, dual dash speaker, amp and all hooked into my smart phone for tunes. • cleaned up the interior and removed the seat covers to find the original cover • dashboard Jesus • tune up and oil change • new windshield rubber • new glove box insert • hood lock • gun rack |

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck
Oh heck ya, you are making way cool progress.
It is going to be a good while before I can even turn the ignition key on mine yet. Even after that, it will be a while more before I drive it out of the garage.... This next summer maybe... You are certainly looking good though!!

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck
What an incredible amount of progress in a short time. Nice you can already enjoy it as a daily driver. Can’t say enough for having a wife that not only helps but shares enthusiasm and knows what to do. Stripping paint has to be one of the nastiest things to do on restoring an old vehicle. That’s a major contribution compared to just holding a flashlight!

Completely true. I’m former Jarhead and she’s former EMT. Amazing what can be can accomplished with enough supportive enthusiasm. I’ve always used the benchmark that if I’m ever in a firefight, she’s the one person I want next to me. It’s reassuring to find other couples enjoying similar gratification.

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck
Thanks again for the compliments. My wife and the mother of my children is a pretty remarkable lady. That is a her in my avatar with a PICC line in her arm fighting lymes disease(still fighting). A couple of days ago it was nice and sunny out so she stripped more paint.
In the beginning(October 2011)... ...and now She is hoping for another sunny day before Winter really sets in next week to finish it up including color sanding and buffing which we will get some help with from a good friend. |
