It could also just be a TBI motor with the swirl port heads, even a 305. Could be a roller cam or flat tappet. Won't know until we can run the numbers and you can take a look in the intake valley.

Re: my 82 longbed...90 vette engine

well folks. seems i was definately lied to. i still cant find number on block(maybe cuz im retarded). but after i came home from church. i took off valve cover and found these numbers. 14101081. guess whats under the hood is just a little 305. kinda bummed on this. even if it wasnt gonna be a vette engine, which woulda been nice. i was hoping for a 350. thought i had a 5.7 350. think i have 5.0 if lucky, 305.
truck sounded nice. kinda sold me. i always liked the sound of muscle cars/trucks. i was told it was vette, with 305 cams and 700r?? trans.
not sure but guess i have a little 305
unfortrunately i put valve cover back on before i read last posts. so not sure bout roller or tapet???

still could be a 350 with 305 heads. happened to me, casting on block said it was a 350 but someone put 305 heads on it.. look between the back of the drivers side valve cover, and the firewall. straight down. probably need a flashlight and its tight but u should be able to read the numbers. that will tell us for sure what you have

Pull the valve cover back off and take a look down into the lifter valley. A late model roller cam TBI 305 is rated at the same HP that my 78 vintage 4-bbl 350 so it is not as much of a slouch as you may think.

I have heard many stories where people put 305 heads onto a 350. Could even be an older short block with newer 305 heads on it. Get a pic of the back of the block casting numbers and see if you can read the stampings on the pad behind the alternator on the passenger side. We will be able to tell what the short block came out of this way and ID what size it is for sure.

Re: my 82 longbed...90 vette engine

It could be a 305 from a camero. The casting numbers will tell you for sure. A tpi engine will have a roller cam. The truck engines were roller capible blocks, but did not get the roller cam until about '94.
The truck does look pretty nice even if it doesn't have a vette 350. The L98 heads are decent, but I've heard they are prone to cracking and do not flow as well as the vortec heads. I hope that makes you feel better.
