Re: WARNING! NOT FOR THOSE WITH A WEAK STOMACH! Got cut by a cut off wheel tonight.

Yeah been there before. I was also doing a c-notch and the blade broke and caught me in about the same place as you. I was not wearing gloves (I do now.lol), it was a trip to the emergency room and waiting all night to get stitch up. It was a bunch of stitches and the doctor was finding pieces of the cut-off wheel in the wound. It pays to be careful and not be in such a rush.

Re: WARNING! NOT FOR THOSE WITH A WEAK STOMACH! Got cut by a cut off wheel tonight.

a few do not i have experienced

cutting through quarter panel upward when blade on sawzall broke and all the upward force landed the sawzall in the center of my face and broke my nose.result, set it myself, blew some blood out my nose and finished the job and went and laid down.

laid up a carbon fiber gauge panel between two layers of 3mm plate glass with not enough mold release way around edges. resin shrunk as it cured and loaded glass under tension, glass became like giant spring. couldn't separate mold so grabbed a glass cutter , scored and snapped and wore a face full of glass, result 6 inch long piece of glass cut a third of the way around my eye and severed the muscle from the side of the eye. 18 hours of microsurgery.

Straightening frame on 38 Packard holding 5lb cross peen and getting the other guy to drift the cross peen with the 25lb sledge as hard as he could while shouting harder at him. result... crosspeen shatters and get a chunk of hammerhead in the chest, shatters my sternum and comes to rest between my heart and my lung. 3 hours of fluoroscopic surgery to dig it out and multiplke blood transfusions.

lesson learned? don't cut towards yourself, wear safety glasses, don't hit two hammers together. Could havew sworn someone told me all that in grade 9 metalwork?

Here I thought I spent a lot on the doctor. I bet the chicks dig the hell out of him.

Why don't you guys use grinders with anti-kickback limiters?

Re: WARNING! NOT FOR THOSE WITH A WEAK STOMACH! Got cut by a cut off wheel tonight.

I did the same thing a few years back but it got the back side of my left hand ... hit one of the veins/arteries and woo wee did we have a gusher! I had a piece in the vise and was holding the Zizz wheel/die grinder with my right hand (no glove) and "bracing" the die grinder on the work piece with my left (glove), the die grinder "grabbed" and the wheel felt like it brushed across the back of my left hand. Funny thing is I didn't even know it till my garage buddy screamed that I was getting blood all over his new Miller Tig rig.

A 3 hour trip to the emergency room & 10-12 stitches later and we were all good and back at the shop.

Always wear your Safety Glasses. Even the shop dog Max has his on!

My daughter couldn't resist putting them on him, and getting a picture!
