decision to part with it has not been made yet. Those discussions are currently in progress with the required partys.

But for the record- this won't go cheap either.

Sounds like you have a tough decision. You'll regret what ever you decide, because if you sell it, it will always be on your mind... if you keep it, you will always have the major project hanging over your head.

Since you have a family... I'd sell it to someone that will do it justice (maybe even someone close to you so you can help if you get a day off.) In the mean time, enjoy the time with your family while you can. 11 year olds turn in to 18 year olds over night, and THAT will be your greatest regret if you miss out on that because of some truck.

I went through what your are going through many times during the modification/restoration of my "little" truck. We finished it enough to make it road worthy minutes before my wedding and that was so amazing, since I know that someday when my kids get married that truck will be at the church as well. It is a major decision that will haunt you either way for a long time to come.

On a side note, I would give it a good home next to my dually if that decision is made. I hope that you decide to keep it though.

When I was building my shop I ran outta cash,, winter was coming & I sold my loaded 67 Cougar that hadn't been on the road in years but was my 1st car. I got a lot of money for a non-running car, so I finished the shop. I regret it somewhat but I had to do it. Car was deteriorating quickly, didn't have the $$$ to do it all(build shop & car raise kid,pay bills). Now I have somewhere to work, I got another project & am happy. Brian

I would keep it. A couple of years ago I got my first vehicle, which was a 1971 Dodge Challenger. Got an amazing deal on it(600 dollars). I eventually sold it because:

a) I could sell it easily and get about 3000 for it.
b) I wasn't really into old vehicles, and I wanted a newer one.

I sold it, got $2500 for it, ran to the bank, and now I regret it. I really want an old muscle car, and I don't think I'll find another so cheap like the one I had. And the Charger was in good shape too and had a slant 6 in it which ran great.

Holy crap! that's one long bugger, what's the wheelbase on your truck Joe? that is a neat truck, you don't see many of those around anymore, but a man gotta do what a man's gotta do, you might regret selling and as you've said you'll never find another one like it again, ever.
But if is something that you think you won't be able to get to fix and and don't have tha space then is time to let it go to somebody that will give it the attention it badly deserves and maybe see it someday reborn in all its glory.

Right now, I'm downsizing the fleet as well beacuase the family is growing and need that space as well, I may no like the idea of selling a nice or rare truck, but sometimes you gotta see the big picture.

BTW, do you call that deteriorated? hahahah you should the truck that I see here in the rustbelt, now where that hell is Andy with that pic of that suburban that was rusted all the way up to the rear windows?? that my friend was way beyond deteriorated and the guys selling it wanted a fortune for it because it was super rare 3 door model

Hey Joe...cool old tractor ya got in the garage..not that I was looking that hard! I see the oldie that you are putting that engine in..cool!

As far as losing interest because of not enough time..BEEN there! Had a '57 2dr Wagon that we pretty much rebuilt, took quite a few years...but we just got to this point where...we didnt have any more money to put into it...and time..forget about it! So we eventually sold it! And we had it a loooooong time..it was like seeing one of our kids going up the road when she left..made me sick!!!!!!!

You will regret it most definately if you sell it....it's only natural. And if you don't sell it...it may just be a project that will never get finished...I guess I didnt really help ya any hear..lol...its a cool truck though. I say buy something that's pretty much done.

This comes about the closest to my thoughts too. It just sounds like the "I'm going to restore it someday". I had three projects that I was going to restore. I had all of them stored inside. But I finally just up and sold all of them on ebay. I sort of miss the 50 Ford Panel, but I also know it went to a good home where the owner is actually doing something with it. But there are enough of them out there, I would be able to find another one if I ever got the urge to build one.

Unless there is some sentimental value attachement to it, I would say sell it if you do not think you are not going to get to it in the next couple of years.

I can appreciate all the comments of "KEEP IT AND BUILD IT!" but if that is not a realistic choice, then I think your choice is quite obvious.

Mike

Well as it stands today, I am going to try to keep it. I have found some of the root causes to my driveability problem and am hopeful that it will be reliable very soon.

as far as the questions and comments- I appreciate all of the support and advice that has been given. Unfortunately things don't always work out as you plan so it helps to have you guys to kind of sound off on.

As for the "old" comment- sorry guys the big 4-OH is around the corner and I guess it is starting to stare back at me with less than flattering glances...( I keep wondering who that old guy is in the mirror that keeps looking at me when I get up) Anyhow- after I dropped a cab on my chest Monday morning I am really feeling old and out of shape. I can't wait for my son to get a little bigger- I need the help!!

Wheelbase? I don't know but I am pretty sure it is long-and -then-some. I can measure for you when I find my 100' tape measure!

And for CPNE- sorry can't crush it. It won't fit!! But I promise it will be used as a TRUCK when I am done. Isn't that the whole point?

last- Teeitup- Sure buddy- I will put you in my will- you and the wife can fight over what nothing I have!!!

Crew, if it makes you feel any better, I have a 72 402 4x4 (conversion) that's been untouched in my garage for 2 years now. What with work and coaching and kids and kids' school work . . . this is how I figure it. Its in the garage and its not deteriorating. I have 3 kids: 12, 14, 15. Kids grow up so fast that they are more important at the moment. This project I got from someone ELSE who had only wanted the previous big block that was in the truck. So I have progressed from the previous owner in changing cabs, box, and putting a 39,000 mile 72 402 back in. (P.O. had 454 in it) So if you have a place to store it where the condition won't get any worse, SAVE IT!
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Ok I actually had some time to work on this thing today!! I had a buddy of mine rebuild the carb, and during the tear down he noticed that the carb had a lot of scaley rust in it...We have determined that the in cab tank was self destructing..So it was pulled and the blazer tank kit I bought from teeitup is in progress being installed. It may be a little small for a big block truck, but oh well. I have also replaced the lines all of the way to the pump.

A few pics of the progress and one of my ugly mug...
