Deal or no deal?
I picked up a boat anchor flat tappet 305 today for 300. With it I got
Was this a deal or did I just throw away some bucks? Ok all I was really after was the TPI but the burnt up Qjet was a prize. Last edited by dennis57; 05-18-2009 at 07:47 PM. |

The UPS guy made a delivery late today. I have another one that will most likely arrive Monday. Time to get to work.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
I would have to say that I like the '57 best out of the rest of the TF's, mostly the grill. I can't wait to see the finished truck.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
Are you going with TPI? I decided to do that on my '54 after learning about my '88 IROC's TPI.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
I drove 4 hours North and paid $500 for a 5.7 with a "complete" TPI system, that I found out after I got there, was missing the port matched plenum. Needless to say, my wife was upset. I'd say the TPI is well worth the $300.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
I made some progress today. Fit the lower left rear door jam and the step/rocker. WOW they used to put stuff together well. I had a heck of a time getting the step out.
The lower forward door jam panel won't be here till Monday. |

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
Awesome progress Dennis...
Nothing better than working with NEW replacement panels, instead of piecing together your own. Looks like they're going together nicely

Nice looking project. I have my eye on a 58 Chevy sb/fleetside I want to buy as soon as I sell my Jimmy. Your picturs have inspired to buid an older truck.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
Right on. I'm glad to have helped persuade you into building a 50 year old truck. So far this has been a fun project. Although the floor and door jam on the passenger side kicked my butt all day and its not fit yet.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
Good start! The nice thing about these trucks is that it's a relatively minor chore to fit wide tires out back -- cut the bedsides or go a step further and relocate the springs. There really isn't a need to cut the rails.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
Getting things done a little at a time. I'm kind of held up waiting for the lower door hinge attach panels. But I did manage to fit the rear right door jam and get both roughed in.
I also fit the right floor pan. |

A little at a time is better than it just sitting like mine.

Re: My 57 build (lots of pictures)
I got a bit more done this morning. The lower forward door jam parts showed up yesterday so I could get back to doing something.
I got the right side roughed in and the hinge close out. Moving on to the left side. I hope to have this finished by the end of next week and sitting on its floor so I can see how the door fit now and start on the dash. |
