I know exactly what you mean. I'm trying to do mine on a college kid's budget (or atleast with tuition payment and paying off previous loans). When I found out that the truck I was purchasing had manual drums on, I didn't think much of it. Jobs I've done converting over cars to power disc didn't cost that much. But, after cost of new lines, conversion kit using 73-80 spindles and hardware for power disc up front and converting to 5 lug (I figured I was going to need some good Mosier Eng axles anyways). What I figured 1 grand ended up being 1500. But when filling this old truck up at the gas station on wensday and getting compliments was one heck of a pat on the back. Its always worth it. Plus there's nothing like driving Old Iron around in this day of throw away vehicles.

I look at it this way.....I'll have about 25K in mine when its done and will have one bad ass super cool piece of American muscle history. It will be paid for and I won't have to worry about another one just like it pulling up next to me at a light. Take 25K to the new truck dealership and see what you can buy with it.
Don't get me wrong here...I saved for 10 years to be able to do this and lots of blood, sweat and tears, nobody said this would be easy and they were right. I've had to do several things more than once or twice to get it right but that's how we learn. This is my first build and I know every nut, bolt and screw on this truck but I learn something new every day.
This forum and the people in it are priceless!
The first person that walks up to me and says "Man, thats a nice truck!" will make it all worth while.

I too have a folder with all the reciepts. I can't bring myself to add them up. We still have a long way to go......... But the time with the son is PRICELESS. When we do get to drive it, and someone says nice truck, i believe it will all be worth it.

Just be glad you are doing one of these trucks You could be redoing a vehicle where the parts don't exist and have to be made. These are one of the least costly vehicles to redo

Yeah. It sure is easy to spent a ton of cash on these trucks. I'm trying to stay within a set budget, but I'm allready getting close to it.
