mobil1 10w30 in my 76 and in the wife's 95 Nissan Pathfinder with 180K miles. In hot weather 10w30 is usually best all around and for cold winters like above the mason dixie line 10w40 for late fall to early spring
I am in North FL so it is 10w30 year round but originall from SD so i know the cold/hot oil changes

Vavloline 10-30 with a Fram filter every 3K miles or so, WITH a bottle of Lucas. My truck would puff a little smoke off the line untill i started using Lucas. I tried 10-40 for the summer to keep better oil pressure with higher temps, but I have a ticking/tapping(sounds like a lifter) with the 10-40, so I'm sticking with 10-30.

10w-30 mobil 1 in my Jeep (82k) and wife's Pathfinder (117k). Rebuilt 355 in pickup has had 2 oil changes starting with straight 30w for break in. Now has 10w-30 and put maybe 6-8 miles on it so far. Pickup's oil is left over quarts from other changes (mixed brands), that I had on the shelf. I change my oil frequent enough not to worry about what name brand I use. Same goes for my filters. It won't see synthetic for a few thousand miles, which could be in a couple of years.

I use wallyworld whatever brand 20 w 50. I dont see a use more expencive oil cause the truck with inching up to 190,000 mile and it leaks *I think* and I know it burns it cause of fouls up a couple plugs. but no blue smoke when I start it up. it goes through aprox 1 1/2 qt's every to weeks.

I agree with Bowed, use what your manufacturer says to use, newer engines run some very tight clearances on cylinder walls and bearings, so one is just kidding themselves to think a thicker oil is better. I use 5W30 year round in everything I have. A few years back, I had the opportunity to talk with the Valvoline oil rep at our John Deere dealer. He also said use what your manufacturer recommends since that particular engine is built for that viscosity oil. I was kind of stunned when he said that 10W40 oil should have never seen the light of day, I of course asked why and he simply said you cannot have that much of a spread in the viscosity figures and not have to modify the oil in a disastrous way to make it work. He said that was just a way for companies to be able to market 1 grade of oil that would work in place of a lot of single weights, and since discount stores wanted an oil they could sell cheap and they got it at the expense of a lot of engines.

One of my friends works at NAPA and he told me that the NAPA oil is Valvoline. It is just in a blue bottle and a lot cheaper.

Yeah i have to go with what the other guys are saying about 10w40. I heard from someone here in town that 10w40 is utter crap. Their exact words were something like "10w40 is s---., it tears up your motor." Now i know why that person said that...
