I can help a little here.
Joe told me that he did cut a donor truck for the lower piece and had a friend weld it in. And to see it now, you would never know. It is flawless. And it is black so you know it would show. Another interesting point to Joes truck was the fact that the same cut was made ABOVE the back window. Only to the seam in the roof and then it was folded up like some kind of water seal. They actually folded it back down and put it in the original place and welded it in. My memory may be off on some details and Joe can tell you all the facts with some cool pics. Joe, correct me here. If you ever get a chance to see this truck in person and see the before pics and the after product, you will be amazed. Sorry to step in here Joe, but that truck made a lasting memory.

I bought a 1 ton with a small hump also. I think most of the big humps were either big blocks or granny 4 speeds, 1 ton or not. I've got some buckets, console, and factory tilt if you would consider selling it. Of course my buckets are not as nice.

Kevin said it just about right. I did use a doner cab back to weld in the hole. The cab on my truck was MINT so it was worth fixing the back. It wasn't too bad to fix. Here are some pics of it. I need to take some new pics of the truck done.
Also, Is your tranny for sure a 400?? Does it have an electric kick down with a switch that is mounted on the top of the gas pedal?? I just ask because I haddn't seen a 71-72 with a "factory" 400 tranny behind a small block???? But I do learn something new everyday!!

Thanks for the pictures. There might be hope for this truck afterall. It is definitly a TH400. That's one of the first things I checked for. It has the electric kickdown switch on the gas pedal. I sold a 69 GMC earlier this year that had a 307 V8 with a factory TH400. It had the earlier style kickdown switch mounted on the side of the carburator so the TH400 was a factory installed option. Well, You learn something new everyday. I have seen 400 trannys behind 69 and older small blocks, but never on a 70-72. Good luck with your truck. When you take more pics, i would like to see the option sticker. I really like Dually's!!!!

I finally got some more pictures of the truck. First two are of the option decal and TH400 switch. I am still debating if the 24K showing on the odometer is actual miles. The body does not look much like it, but check out some of the other pictures. I took the buckets out and cleaned them and they are perfect! Also check out the original tires and the condition of the steering wheel and door panels. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't doubt it in the least looking at the grain around the steering wheel and the armrest pad/panel. Double the fact that it was a 1 ton camper unit, 24k miles wouldn't surprice me in the least.
I will throw one more thing out on the turbo 400 small floor pan. My 67 GMC with 305 V6 had the factory turbo 400 with small pan. I would lay odds GM engineers used the bolt in high hump for heat concerns fron the exhaust manifolds and the automatic transmission under large loads. Mark
