changed the plugs and still the same problem. is there any way it could be the carburetor? When adjusting the two screws on the front of an edelbrock the motor should want to die when screwed all the way in right?

I think that you have a lean surge. Running lean causes the engine to run hot and could cause the plugs to get really hot and maybe what is causing the glow. Try tipping in the choke flap when running at 2000 rpm and see it the engine speeds up. If it does it is lean.

thank you mertz ill try that tonight if i keep the edelbrock on long enough to mess with it. Im puttin a 750 double pumper on it once i go get it =)

Ur timing is probably to fast. when the motor is cold is it hard to start?? i was having the same problem and i fixed it this morning by back the timing down.
EDIT: dont know about the plugs though

ill try to retard it a little more i guess. And no it is not especially hard to start when cold.

usually if it is too advanced it will start ok when cold then after it warms up it'll crank slow then fire.
