Re: ideas for shop

There's a guy a few houses down from me. He's building a huge 3 stall garage/shop in his backyard. I walk by his house daily to pick up my mail. They've been building for about 3 months now. I finally talked to him last week, and he gave me a tour. There's (2) bendPak lifts in 2 of the stalls, (4) 220 outlets. A/C, Heat, great lighting. I asked him what he's planning on building. His reply was nothing. He said having a shop makes changing the oil in his truck & wife's car easier. I know he's not a car guy. We talked about my 53 & 59 about a year ago. He just couldn't understand why people would still drive such old vehicles.

Re: ideas for shop

If you are going with a ten or twelve foot ceiling height I would not use flourescent lights. I've always had problems with them getting dim or ballasts going out when they get some age on them. I have a 30x40 with two metal halide lights and they put off more than six or eight flourescents and they last forever. It just takes a few minutes for them to warm up.
