Re: 71 suburban daily
I have been busy again, I got myself a new steering wheel and gauges.
Also purchased an other glovebox door. In the last picture you can see the little holes making an arrow. I'm putting large leds behind them, that will be my warning lights. Also did the brake light and the high beam. And i am thinking to buy a set of 18 x 9,5 boss 338 wheels, I photoshopped the on the burb to see how they look. I am waiting for a descent set of springs, carpet and a new radiator to arrive here in holland. I still need to make the headliner and all the door panels.

Re: 71 suburban daily
this is a cool build thread. I like the results so far.
my question is what do you have planned for where the later column meets the cluster? |

Re: 71 suburban daily
@ toomanytoyz
These are the leds that i will be using, there available in different colors. I welded a pipe on the back where the holes are, the leds fit right in there. I drilled some holes on the side of the pipe where 2 pins will hold the led. I'll post a picture of that later. @ idonutn0 Yes i also like the result on the wheels, of course 20 s would be nicer but because it is going to be my daily driver i have to consider the driving comfort. @ 68C15 I will try and make a piece of aluminium that lets it flow in to each other.

Re: 71 suburban daily
I used my Sunday to Finnish the dash.
I still need to wire the whole thing but i temporarily hooked up a battary too see how the signal lights would look. Earlier I made myself a trailer hitch, nicely hided behind the license plate. I run the suburban on LPG, on the right you can see the filler for that. On the left is the hookup for the lights. I forgot to take a picture of the back of the panel, if I don't forget than I will do that later this week.

Re: 71 suburban daily
Is it legal in the Netherlands to own such an awesome burb? I'd impound it just to drive it if I were a cop.\
Where did you guy the LEDs?

Re: 71 suburban daily
Wow! Killer job on the dash.
As far as the boss wheels, the 338's are a good looking wheel that have the styling of Coys for less cost. I'm sure the will look awesome. Great build.... .

Re: 71 suburban daily
Thanks for the compliments, that is where these topics are all about.
And of course to give someone else an idea on how things could be done. I don't know if it is illegal to drive such a burb here on the streets It does make a lot of noise Here are some pictures of the back of the panel, with the leds installed. I bought the leds here in Holland from a Internet shop in all sorts of electronics.

Re: 71 suburban daily
I have spent most of my weekend laying upside down under the dash.
Made the spaghetti a little nicer, also addes an vacuum switch in the setup for the TH 700 lockup. Also made new knobs for the wiper and light switch. Finally finished the dash, but i can't relax yet. Have to do the headliner now.

Re: 71 suburban daily
Looking at the pics in your post #2,11, & 37 I have some questions.
What kind of carburetor is on the engine? Is the round black tank between the exhaust pipe the LP tank that is fill by the opening shown in post 37? If so, is it custom made? What system are you using to switch from gas to LP? Nosy aren't I?

Re: 71 suburban daily
Thanks,
@ ERASERS, I have an Edelbrock 1406 on the engine, but i have to adjust some things on that because it is running way to rich. On top of the Edelbrock I custom made an adapter on which a impco 425 mixer is placed, i mostly drive on LPG because that is almost 1/3 of the price of normal gas. I still have to make a custom air filter which scoops cool air from the outside. I also have a problem with the gas, that it is flowing back. If i dont use the car for e few week or so, Than there is no gas in the carb left. also the fuel pump is not able to pick up new gas from the tank, really strange. I have an mechanical pump on it right now but i want to place a electrical later on. And indeed the round black tank can hold 100 liter LPG. When i switch from Gas to LPG i flip a switch in the middle position where the gas flow stops and the carb's gas will run out, the moment the engine starts to stutter i flip the switch all the way and i run on LPG. The other way should be the same but because of the problem with the gas draining i can't switch back.

Re: 71 suburban daily
Cool. I like the idea of alternative fuel source.
How big is your custom gas tank? If you go with an electric pump, are you going to setup a safety shut off so that the pump does not keep pumping in case of an accident? I really like your burb. Good color choice.

Re: 71 suburban daily
My custom tank can hold up to 15.8 gallon (60 liter). That is enough in case of emergency.
Yes I have to make the pump shut off in case of an accident. I have a similar system on my LPG setup. If i put the ignition on, then the valves will open for about 10 seconds if in there is no signal from the distributor within those 10 seconds, the valves will close again. In case of engine failure there wont be a signal also.

Re: 71 suburban daily
Today i have been busy trying to fit some electric window motors to the standard window mechanism.
I had to make and adjus a few parts but it works well now They don't go real quick and it is going to hurt for sure if i get my fingers between the window and frame, because it has got a lot of strength.
