Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

so... nothing really new to report - except that after "pruchasing" a hood (4 days after) I get a call "... we're sorry Mr. Eisen, the computer was wrong!"
So I all the other guys who are more money and they 'say' they have two hoods...
we'll see.... hopefully if their computer is out, it is only by one!!!

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!!

So two months later, I have more news...
I tried to get my hood from 3 different sources south of the border. The only one to actually have one was LMC. they shipped to my po box in Port Huron no probs. The nature of our business makes Tuesday the best day for me to go to get my parts. We have had a number of good storms called "lake effect streamers". Due to either road closures due to snow, or other factors at work, it has been over a month since my parts arrived in PH and my chance to pick them up. The 27th proved to be the day!! My wife and kids did some shopping, and i got my goodies!! ...here's were we are now...
The truck is at "the spa" and the box is repaired, straight, and in epoxy primer.
I now have the hood (with the first dent free!) and it is going to the spa today... once they fit the front end and prep the cab I get it back (rolling) to do the following...
- I have a front brake kit to install - I have a cross-member to install
- I have a battery to relocate - I have a re-wiring kit to install

I still need to find someone to rebuild my seat. I have the frame and springs, and nothing more. I have heard that there is a guy in Woodstock that is good... will keep you up to date... Here is the hood and wiring harness...

Have a safe new years, hope to be back again soon!

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

well, it has been a long time since i have posted... sorry! it has been a busy winter. while the truck was at the shop we discvered that my truck may have been a test subject for different types of body filler! really! there must have been studies going on to see how thick different types of substances could be applied to metal surfaces to straighten pannels! Also test werre performed on Ol'Blue to see how non0traditional filling materials could be applied in the automotive field!!! i just wish we had a copy of the written summations!!!
we found newspaper, plaster of paris, chicken wire, aluminum screen, mud (yes, real mud) and traditional body fillers used in various different locations! the thicknesses varied from 0.000 to over 3/4" thick.
there were two golf ball size dents between 1 o-clock and three o-clock beside the back window. there was filler applies over top from 11 o-clock to 5 o-clock....there were no ohter marks or dents in the entire area...
. . . . . a n y w a y s . . . . . . .
I have learned an important lesson this winter... there is a 'minimum cost' associated with getting in to a hobby (sickness) (love) like this; and when you buy a vehicle that is priced below that minimum, .... things will come up to equalize your investment!!!

Ol'Blue should be comming out of the shop within the next month with a new hood, new inner fenders, modified firewall, new lower hinges, new passenger step, new cab corners, and new doors. she will also have the radio (and knobs) deleted. i have picked a color that is called Bright Yellow (that's all untill i have the picks)
since we had to go further than we thought with the body; we also choose to move the fuel tank - so a new cell is en-route. the wiring was absolute trash, so again... we are relocating the battery and re-wiring...
i am not discouraged, and i have even gone so far as to start planning next winter's projects; but for now, we are trying to button up what is happening now in irder to have her back out on the road - hopefully in may!

heading to work now, and a car show tonight, but will update photos over the weekend!

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

So, last Friday I went to the body shop, and Matt told me ...you might want to come back late theis afternoon...
When I got there, the Yellow base had already been sprayed to part of the truck, and he was just about ready to start clear...
as you may have seem prior, the radio hole had been messed with, so it was smoothed out. I have opted to put better guages in in it place...
lets just say that Friday was a very good day!

Well, today i was at the shop, and the truck was outside... too bad it was so overcast, the yellow is actually pretty bright!!

notice our custom battery mount - the electrical tape holding it together is actually color correct to the battery polarity (lol)

also worth a note: the custom mount for the fuel cell...

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

I am playing around with the the chrome accents for the truck. I was looking for some feedback on color choice... either what is 'correct' or what would look good with the body color... any and all feedback is appreciated...

i doctored this one up (very poorly) in paintshop...
i think that red was the 'right' color....

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

I think you could get away with that if you pinstripe your truck with the same Red, just some accents

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

with the truck as yellow as it is, and the three dominate colors being yellow, black and chrome, I think that the black background is the way we will go!

Good choice. The red just wouldn't look right with the yellow.

Monday i went by the body shop - man!!! 4 coats of clear, and what has now been called electric yellow... even with dust and drit on it the shine is incredible! the lines are looking great, and with any luck we will have the "rolling cab" back from Matt shortly so we can go mad scientist on the electrical, fuel, and front brake system. i have the origianl hood and doors, if anyone has any interest in the parts please contact me!!

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

i vote red trim on the chrome. can't beat original... 2nd choice=black, but that, to me, would give tghe truck a monochromatic look (which I personally would not get all slobbery over). Definitely not yellow. Contrast is a good thing, and consider that all the originals, regardless of body color, were red, and they always looked good back then. I say make impact with the super paint job you're already in work on, and let the details be original looking (but in great shape of course). Just my 2 cents. But personally, when I see modified trim, it always kinda ruins it for me. Not a purist by any stretch, but I like the original look on bodies and trim, and the money shots for bling lie under the hood.... (and about as blingy as I get is "shiny" orange painted valve covers....)

Nice truck! Can't wait to see more progress pics.

another vote for the red on your fender spears. I like the original look of the spears, and hood emblems etc.

Re: 57 chev - Canadian eh!

the angled shot above was taken the morning after our charity car show -
the fog and the truck just kind of set the mood for the photo....

just fyi - the 'show' is a yearly event and everything brought in that day goes back to local charities... this year was just north of 7,000.00

I will post a few more of the 'in between' stuff later...
