Re: Bed rail caps?

I find them on Craigslist, the rat rod bikes forum... facebook. You never know when one will turn up.

I had this one shipped from Minnesota... nowhere near as nice as the seller claimed. and the shipper damaged it... I had to spend about a week dealing with the shipper to get some compensation for the damage... about another week straightening it all out and cleaning and painting on it

Re: Bed rail caps?

Thanks, I really enjoy them. And yes, most people aren't familiar with bikes like these. They've seen high end road bikes and mountain bikes, but the only cruisers they're familiar with are walmart $88 bikes.

This is probably my favorite bike to ride. Electra Delivery with a hand lettered sign board with the name of my family farm and vineyard on it

Re: Bed rail caps?

The bike on the rack behind the truck (post #7) is an Electra Super deluxe

Re: Bed rail caps?

That's an Electra "Black Betty" with the pink wheels on the rear of the rack. The green bike is an Electra ladies (or geriatric) Townie. The Electra Delivery is in the bed with the original sign board

Re: Bed rail caps?

You are deep into bike collecting. I knew you had a couple but wow.
Back in the mid 60s I bought a skinny tired, 3 speed, hand brake tall bike from my uncle who used it while in the Air Force. I thought it was an English bike. Extremely light weight. I learned to ride backwards on that bike. I sat on the handlebars facing backwards and went everywhere on that thing. Yeah nuts I know but it was fun. I think I gave him $5 for that bike.

Here's that bike I built in '80. Thought you might get a kick out of it:

Re: Bed rail caps?

Man, now you made me want to start looking into doing custom cruisers. I have a blue Schwinn Typhoon frame I made a cruiser out of. It has medium apes and fat whitewalls. Those big fat tires make for some cool looking bikes. I Imagine riding on sand is awesome

Re: Bed rail caps?

I really enjoy my cruisers...
Actually swapped back to the original bars on my felt hot wheels bike... Added some new grips as well...

Also just got back from letting my guy look at my bedrail problem.

The truck has already had two repaints. He wants to strip both besides and the tailgate to bare metal and then repaint them. There's also a blister of rust in the driver's side door jamb he's going to cut out and repair... It'll probably be a couple weeks before he can get me in

Re: Bed rail caps?

The truck is getting what it needs. Keepin' her sharp!

I use those bells, too. I've looked at what's out there before, from frames to built bikes. I really could get deep into that. I was into bikes before so much stuff was out there. I could get sick on this stuff now. I regretted having to sell off my Schwinns. I had that Streamliner I just rode as is. I'd go peddling up the C&O Canal on that thing and all these DC people with their high priced bikes and "bicycle apparel" would either scoff at or admire it with their jaws dropped, like they couldn't believe I relied on it to carry me back to my truck

Re: Bed rail caps?

Not everyone likes my bikes... but... not everyone matters.

If you've never checked out the rat rod bike forum check it out. www.ratrodbikes.com

This is the bike that started my collection. I wanted a lowrider bike to match my truck... things kinda just blew up from there.

Re: Bed rail caps?

Ah, that one takes me back to a when I was a kid and the "banana bikes" came out. I stripped my regular 20" down and bought the seat and ape hangers for it and I had one too. Later an actual wide slick rear tire was available, no tread at all like a racing slick. It was wheelieville from then on.

Re: Bed rail caps?

In other news... My friend that is going to repair my pickup gave me a grill and insert that I'm planning on using in one of my next wall hanging/art projects.

I had to polish it and repaint the black portions... The bowtie was missing the center...I was going to cut a piece of plastic to fit it and paint it blue... Was using a beer box for my template... Then I just decided to leave the beer box in it...

Re: Bed rail caps?

I'm going to try to come up with a core support, cut two fenders off right behind where they bolt to the core support and cut a hood off even with them... and add a bumper... and headlight bezels

Re: Bed rail caps?

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
We've got an idea of how we're going to do it... How practical it turns out to be and if it ends up that way is another story entirely

We built this bench several years ago

Re: Bed rail caps?

Hmmm. Interesting when most everybody these days are putting combos like that in.
Smooth rolling stock choice too.

Re: Bed rail caps?

Yea... Most people would refer to his truck as "done"...
He's getting ready to do an engine/trans swap, front suspension/crossmember swap
... And new tires/wheels...
