Re: Barn find last weekend. This will get everyone riled up
Thats real nice, and a working AC too. When you turn it on you'll need to down-shift though.
There used to be a Comet (falcon)/Cougar place out here that had everything. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Re: Barn find last weekend. This will get everyone riled up
I gave $500 for it. I could be driving it now if it were not for the fender. I bought a pair of 62 Texas plates from a fella in San Antonio yesterday. I am going to hold off registering it untl I get a fender. I had another fella in S. Dakota return my call saying he had a real nice one for $150. Best price so far, but would still have to pay shipping. County line classic Auto Salvage in Red Oak Texas (S. of Dallas) said he had one and would call back Mon. That would be the best, as I was planning on going to GoodGuys at the Motorplex in Oct and could pick it up. I am going back and forth on the mileage. For example, the driver side door latch dragged, but the hinges did not have any slack. I used a file to "dress" where the door latch meets the pillar latch and fixed this. The car will intermittently start with the ignition switch. (More often it will not start. I replaced the starter solenoid thinking that was the problem. I tried cleaning the igniton switch by spraying brake parts cleaner then white litium grease and it got a little better, but I think it need a switch. 42k miles would not wear out an ignition switch. One of the Comet "experts" I contacted wanted to see pics. He was impressed, but pointed out that the seats have been recovered, although very well done. He pointed out that the stock rear seat had a Mercury head logo from the factory. The car has 13" wheels. I bought a full set of 4 at NTB yesterday for $100 (!). I need some hubcaps of some sort... I was planning on fixing this car to turn, but it is kind of growing on me. As for value, NADA says the following for the S-22: low retail $6,125 average retail $11,200 high retail $17,300 as opposed to the regular Comet $2,675 $4,725 $7,400. So... who knows... I have come across a few S-22's in similar shape for sale for around $6-$8k...Jay Leno has an S-22 in his collection! (Is that a good thing or bad thing?)

Re: Barn find last weekend. This will get everyone riled up
Fix it up and take it to a local show and shine. It will get more attention than the whole row of tri-5 chevys. These are the cars I gravatiate to at shows, I've seen thousands of the "common" collector cars. Nice buckets and console and six is cool. My daughter and I restored a 67 Mustang with a six, power and torque was surprising, it would turn the tires and chirp second gear (3 speed manual).

Nice find, Ford or no. Classic iron is classic iron as they say. Ignore the cornballs with comments full of sound and fury that signify nothing.

Re: Barn find last weekend. This will get everyone riled up
Looks like the 64 I had years ago. A friend of mine didnt like Fords and had the 64 given to him. I gave him a 100 for it. Had the 170 like that one...no buckets...but the same color.

WIDESIDE, that thing is sweet! Hopefully you can get the parts you need and get the paint matched up, would be cool to keep it original looking. Unless, of course, if you could find some aftermarket wheels that would fit. Nice find, and awesome price! I think rcrahn is jealous of your $500 ride since he didn't find the schaweeeeet deal!

Those old six's run forever, and get pretty decent gas mileage IIRC
I'd have snapped it up in a second.

Re: Barn find last weekend. This will get everyone riled up
Greased the front end this afternoon and quieted down SOME of the scary front end noise. I had to use the Comet to jump the 93 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 off that I just swapped a 350 Vortec into. Already earning its keep. I guess it has a short somewhere. it is going to be my pasture/ tow truck, so I will just disconnect the battery for now... I also have a 99 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 06 Cobalt SS, but would rather not tempt fate by jump starting stuff with the newer all electronic cars. We won't even get into my wife's Prius. Can't beat mpg...50 city/ 47 highway

onetoncrewcab is a boardmember in Mitchell. Unfortunately it looks like he hasn't been online in nearly two years. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...er.php?u=20547
I am about 1.5 hours from Mitchell and I know of several members in Sioux Falls, that's about 45 minutes from Mitchell. Let me know if you need any help.
