Re: Some Q's

The Blazers are 10 bolts with 3:08's.Contrary to popular belief they are the same axles that the civilian Blazer had.All with the 14 bolt rear had a detroit in em and some of the 60 fronts had a trak-lok in them.Parts are the same as the civilian versions.Second to maybe the 9 inch the Dana 60 is the most popular axle around.

Re: Some Q's

Humm, my brother has a 1008 with no lift and is running 36's with just cut fenders. Now they do rub a little but not like you would think. I am certain with a 4" lift his tires wouldn't rub at all. That being said I am going to try 38.5's with a 5" lift on my 1009. 4" springs with a zero rate block = 5"

I think you should get a lift and some tires and drive the heck out of that thing.

8" rims get you by where 10" won`t with certain lift/tire combos. Also flexier springs vs stiffer ones.My`91 3/4t Suburban w/4" EZ-Rides catches it`s 10" D-hole mounted 12.50/35 MTRs.The`84 3/4t truck w/4" Superlifts (in the`80s) was good about not catching the 9.75" trailer wheel mounted A/Ts.The wheels have more backspace than the ones made for trucks.

Are those 15" or 16"? What brand? How do I shop for off road tires? What is the size? I cant find any sites that have tires in the inch width/tire height/Rim size.

Re: Some Q's

Also, what are some cheap(in price)offroad tires? I want Mud Grapplers but $225+ per tire is a bit much. I want 31-33" for 16" wheels.

Re: Some Q's

The Suburban has 16s.The wheels are from 4WPH and so were the tires which are Goodyear MTRs,not cheap. The wheels aren`t to pricey. They are cheaper than round holes and more than wagon wheels. You can catch ProComps (4WPW`s house brand) on a buy 3 get 4 sale.
The tires that come on the M1008s are 235/85x16s and they`re right about 31".BFG M/Ts in 255/85s are about 33" and mount on stock wheels.

Re: Some Q's

Thanks. I read somewhere that the M1008's come with 16.5's, is that right?

Re: Some Q's

Probably/maybe.I have had three of em and they all had 16's.There was a time when 16.5's were hard to find and expensive so it would stand to reason that could have been changed.

NO, the CUCV's did not. The early Hummers had 16.5's.

Re: Some Q's

Around 1980 GM stopped using 16.5s.I had a`78 Dooley that came with and that was pretty unusual by then.16.5s were short/wide profile that came along in the "Wide Oval" era.I believe`68 was the first year and maybe not on GMs until`71.At least that`s been my experience.
