True, but most people put the vacuum line back on when they re-install the air cleaner.

Even with the hose off, it will never keep a good running engine from idling or cause a hesitation.

Re: Backfiring

If you still want the rebuild kit you will probably have to take the carburetor off and bring it to AZ. There are numbers on it in a few places. They will have to cross-reference those numbers until they find a carb rebuild kit for it. I work there. (part time)

Re: Backfiring

Check for sure that if you put the correct gasket under that carb. I rebuilt a Quadra years ago and used one of the 15 gaskets in the kit that was wrong!!! Changed it and it cured it. Spray carb cleaner around the bottom of carb at idle and if it smooths out, you have a leak.

Re: Backfiring

I think you can get a base gasket in the chrome aisle (maybe aisle4) also known as the aisle with all the other stuff you don't need like.... Oh I don't even want to say (rice burner stuff). It would be a Mr. Gasket one I think. Gasket between intake and carb

Never saw that line hooked to the air cleaner before. It has full time vacumn so what will it be operating on the air cleaner? The vacumn line that feeds the air cleaner goes thru a water temp switch off the themo housing.

Oops....showing my ignorance of big blockness.

I was remembering small blockness, maybe even newer big block models.

It will operate the vacuum motor that draws intake air from the pipe that drops down to the exhaust manifold shroud. On small blocks, it will go to a temp sensor mounted in the air cleaner, which regulates vacuum to the motor mounted in the snorkel of the air cleaner housing.

Still won't affect idle much on a good running engine.

Sorry for the incorectness...
