I bought a set of anti-sway bar bushings the other day at Napa and was pleasantly surprised to see Made In America on the box. I hope it didn't mean that just the box was made in America

There's quite a bit of domestic stuff out there if you look for it. I always look first, but sometimes it's just not out there.

Not enough parts made to only sell American made parts. Sad but true. That just gives me incentive to produce our parts here though. It is sad but true that most people choose price over quality or country of production. I have 71/72 Gas Filler Grommets that my company produces here in America, but don't sell very many because people choose the tiawanese cheap knock-offs because they can save 3 or 4 bucks buying them. Then cry when they fail in a month. Ours are guaranteed for 10 years, made in America, but do not sell well. I had 1000 of them produced 2 years ago and probably still have over 950 left. That is only one of the reasons that the work is going over seas. WES

Never really thought about it this way. I do work at the port here in Georgia and bring in hundreds of thousands of imports a year. I was talking with the GM port rep. back when the big three were having their problems. We were standing next to a Kia when we had this conversation and he told me that the biggest problem of it all is that if GM made the exact same car here in the U.S, they would have to sell it for 3 - 5k more to equal the same profit. Sad!

Anyways, as far as I know, everything on my 68 is all American made, even the rust!

And technically, my 2013 Kia Sorento is domestic, made in good ol West Point, GA.

Last fall I needed a new flapper for a toilet tank. Went to two hardware stores trying to find a US made example. Each had the flapper. One store had a US made example the other had a Chinese made one. Guess what? The price was the same.

It's interesting that the Germans are net exporters of manufactured goods and I would guess they also have arguably some of the highest manufacturing related expenses and probably very stringent regulations for emissions, etc.

The big three cut their own throats not unions, tho they have a part...we all do. Most guilty are the bankers with Goldman Sachs at the apex of the dung heap. No... Everybody plays a part and our choices matter. If I can I buy local and American. And I live a simple life.
