Thats because lumber graders aren't!

Here are some pics with the first of three coats of Marine satin varnish, really happy with the natural colour of this timber.
I like the color and the grain

Re: WTB bed wood floor kit??

I haven't finished installing it yet, but I had a woodworker that had procured some chestnut from a rare wood dealer cut my boards for me. I went with a full 1", because why not, right? Going custom all the way. Cold-chiseled the angle strips off, will have to move them up .25"

Re: WTB bed wood floor kit??

Hey Red, nice work on the wood!
How much was it the the local oak? as I'm importing my truck to Sydney from long beach and am shipping a lot of parts with it ( free shipping with truck) and was thinking of getting a kit to put on a raised bed floor.

Might just order SS strips and get wood in Sydney as may change shape when the bed gets raised?

Depends on the year. Chevy AD Panel trucks had bed strips from 47-49. Plywood started in 50. And that's according to tclederman who I'd consider pretty much an expert on originality of these trucks (both on stovebolt and oldgmctrucks)

Brian, I have only finished one coat per side & have two more coats to go, long process for me as I can only get around to it on the weekends. Btw how's the Impala coming along? I see ya a around the 348-409 site a fair bit.

Thanks mate, the Tassie oak was around $300 for 8ft select grade timber which I guess they use for furniture. Tasmanian black wood is real nice also.
Good idea on loading up your pick up, I imported a 59 Apache last year & absolutely loaded it, everything got a free ride but no avoiding the tax.
Here's a picture of my mates 64 long bed. We drove that up to 'Chopped' in country Victoria, it was a huge weekend, mainly traditional hot rods but there were a few pickups there also.

Re: WTB bed wood floor kit??

Ok so bout $300 in oz, might bet a rough quote in Syd prob easier just getting a kit here. These parts sure do add up quickly!

Have you or anyone heard of a fitted bed liner cover to protect the wood when putting stuff in the back?

Some nice cars at the show !!
