Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Got some more stuff banged out on the truck today. Finished up the rear brakes, got the front brakes done, got new lines ran, mounted new wheels on the rear, final fitment of the steering column mount done. Hoping tomorrow to pull the column back out and paint it. Progress is progress though

Great progess! I notice you are running an electric fan. Are you using the stock radiator and what fan did you use? I'm researching this for mine right now. But I don't want to pay astronomical price for the electric fan and would like to keep the stock radiator.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Get a bit of time to work on the truck this weekend. Brakes are all done, new brake hoses and lines. Bled them and no leaks now! Finally.... Hooked the power steering back up with new hoses as well. Got the front wheels painted and on. Now its back on the ground. Waiting on my shifter to come back from the machine shop to install it and it should be ready to make it around the block, fingers crossed

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Been awhile since I have had a chance to work on it but finally got out today and got some stuff done. I have been working on a shifter idea since I have had the truck. The trans is a full manual reversed valve body. Which is cool but I didnt like any truck shifters and the lokars only have detents no gates in their shifter. So ended up using a old B&m quick silver and a hurst 4spd shifter handle. The final product is a ratcheting shifter that fits a truck and looks the part I think. Also got the rear end fluid changed, finished the battery relocate and rebuilt the carb. Its been baby steps but they are still steps

Nice job on the shifter bigd.... I had to look twice at it. If I ever go to an automatic, I may borrow (steal ) your idea.

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Ordered my gas tank, sending unit, filler neck, and new fuel pump
I think my pick up tube was the cause for not getting gas to the carb. New fuel pump just for good measure, lot of trash was in the filter. Im hoping that this weekend to get it in and drive it around the block. Wish me luck and the next up date it is moving under its own power.

That's my kind of plan! Truck looks good. I like the black wheels with the hubcaps. Has a cool look to it.

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Well I got the new gas tank, sender, filler neck and fuel pump installed yesterday. Took a bit of coaxing but it finally started and ran. I think my carb has a bad plunger so it wont squirt fuel right away, ive already rebuilt it so im thinking just to buyba new one and be done with it. Anyways, today I went checked everything, fluids, wheels were tight, brakes still working, ect... Started it up and drove it out of the driveway! First time its moved under its own power in close to 25 years! So I figured what the hell and drove it down the street. Runs great, trans operated flawless, drum brakes sucked! But got down to the end of the road ( 3/4 miles ish) turned and bleh... It died... I didnt bring my carb cleaner to pop it back off. So I pumped and pumped and it finally squirted so I jumped back in fired right back up. Eased back up the road closer to the house, stopped and did a burn out. Roaded threw 2nd gear like champ, pulled back in the driveway and realized i didnt film it or take pictures or anything. Still the best update yet! New carb, disc brakes, suspension are next on the list. Oh and tires, any ideas on skinny whitewalls? 235/70r 15 and 275/60 r15?

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

More baby steps..... After months of jacking with the old carb I had i bought a new one. Finally cut the spark plug wires and put them on and set the timing. Runs like a top! Did some burns outs and drove it around the block a few times, it didnt miss a beat! I installed some rear lowering springs, waiting on the front for disc conversion and spindles. Hopefully right after the new year. Maybe by this summer it will be on the road. A year late lol

Have pics to will post up

Re: Fools Gold. my new 66 c10

Finally back at it. Have disc brakes, spindles, springs, master cylinder, booster and while front end rebuild to go it. The back has been lowered also now time to do the front. Hope to get started on it this weekend.

Did you use a mcgaughys 13' disc brake kit? If so, issue with clearing your 15' wheels?
