The Intermediate "Brake" Band, Direct Drum that the Intermediate Sparg & Race are attached too goes in next.
Then the Forward Drum.
Nothin' but "Lacing Clutches"

I reused the old (In new shape) Intermediate Brake Band!

Band & Direct Drum installed...

4th Clutch Housing, Nothing special here. I only use AC-Delco/GM bolts on this housing, Aftermarket bolts vary too much in quality. Trans-Go being the worst!

1-2 Accumulator, Lo/Reverse Servo & Servo Cover installed.
Intermediate Brake Band Servo.
8 Sonnax imidized plastic Checkballs, They don't tear up the Separator Plate like the stock chromed steel Checkballs.

Valve Body & Mods.....

Ream & fit a Oversized Trans Go AFL Valve, Restores the Actuator Feed Limit hydraulic integrity, Wider "Land" to prevent future wear.

Sonnax TCC Regulator Valve, Has a Teflon Seal to prevent leakage, Lighter Spring for firmer TCC Apply.

New "Thimble" Filters.

New 1-2, 2-3, EPC, & TCC PWM Solenoids.

New Trans-Go Separator Plate, .120" 2nd feed, .101 3rd feed, & .101 4th feed.
3rd & 4th Accumulator left Active.

Valve Body torqued too 98 Inch Pounds.

Trans Go AFL Valve top, Stock Valve bottom...


Sonnax TCC Regulator Valve...


Separator Plate...


Valve Body & Accumulator Housing ready for install...

All done, Painted with Cast Iron engine paint per Chads request.... NO paint on the mounting surface (for grounding reasons), And NO paint around the Pump, If the Pump ever has to come out......The paint flakes off & goes everywhere.

Very nice work, I take it that you did not just order a rebuild kit but ordered from different places ? I have a 96 4l80e that was pulled working fine or so I was told. I am tempted to go thru it since its still sitting on the floor.

I get Clutches, Steels, Seal Kit & the Sonnax parts from Whatever It Takes (WIT), Very similar too Transtar.

Ac-Delco/GM parts are bought from my local Chevy Dealer.

The Intermediate Snap Ring was bought directly from CK Performance.

The TH400 Pistons, Early 4L80E O/D assembly, & TH400 Silencer ring come from my personal Stock.

You can buy a machined TH400 Direct Piston from CK Performance for $80, To get your monies worth......Their Billet Piston Kit is only $20 more.

The Steel Forward Piston is OK to use as it is not a "Shifting" Clutch, I use the TH400 version because my OCD

+1 I wish you were close enough to do the rebuild on my 4l80e. I really like how you mix and match all the different parts to get the best end product instead of just ordering generic rebuild kits like I'm sure most transmission shops would do.

It all depends.....What engine is it going behind? Will you need to convert it too 2wd?

Oh, i mis read what you wrote. It had a v6 behind it, i would probably be putting a turboed 4.8 liter behind this. 5-600hp.

Beautiful documentation on the thread. Thanks for all you do to clear up the mystery of transmissions for us. If I may, since it seems to have turned that way, What is involved in changing a 4wd 4l60 over to a 2wd and what should it cost? Lots of 5.3/4l60 trucks, but a LOT of them are 4x. Like the one I just got. If I were in DFW, I'd be at your door, but I'm not, sadly. A thread on that would be great, but any advice would be welcome. Thanks, and again, great job.

It will cost too much to get a 4L60E to handle 500-600 horsepower, I can build one too hold 500hp N/A reliably & 400hp Boosted.
