well with a complete tune up,,tires aired up,,,i get 8 mpg..with around 3 tons in the bed i get about 5 to 6..i dont load it that heavy to often, but will haul 2 yards of gravel when needed....im wondering since the truck is origanly from texas, if the carb has ever been calibrated or what ever they do to run up in utah with the higher elavations...but i can pull anything i can hook up to and haul anything i can fit in the bed..

Get a holley and tune it. Put small jets in it! turn the vac. secs way down(new spring)
so they hardly ever open! Q jets are good if the whole set up is still factory! Switching them around isn't always good! $0.02
